I am so sorry that your dog is in so much pain, you are faced with a very difficult situation. Please don't try to do this your self, you could actually be causing more pain to him. Call a vet, maybe you can find one that will come to your house if you explain the situation.

Get a friend to help you load him into the car and take him to the vet. I had a 12 year old Akita who had hip displacia since he was 6 and with some steroids, Knox gelatin, and a lot of babysitting, he did very well. He ended up passing due to a respiratory problem. I would get him to the vet to make sure he can't be helped before you do something quite so drastic. Good luck!! DOGS RULE!!

So sorry you are faced with this situation, but you really do not want to do this yourself, you will never forgive yourself. You will forever remember what you had to do even though you felt it was the right thing. My suggestion is to try and find a vet that will go to your house and put him down, or there is another way, and get somebody with a pick-up find a couple three men that would be willing to help you load the dog into the back of the truck, take the dog to the vet and let the vet do it there. Strong guys can get the dog loaded and unloaded for you.

BOY!!!!! i don't know what to say, but i know how you are feeling because 3 years ago i experienced the same thing. my dog kahlua was our baby. we had him for 17 years and he continued to decline in health and spirits until we knew that we couldn't let him suffer .first i would say call a vet and get some advice. if you cannot physically take the dog to the vet some of them will make a home visit. after many, many months of hoping for a miracle. we finally called a vet to come and put our baby kahlua to sleep. IT WAS THE HARDEST THING THIS GROWN MAN HAS EVER DONE IN HIS LIFE AND I HAVE SEEN SOME AWFUL THINGS IN MY LIFE!! again get a professional opinion before you do anything rash and if you must let go. you have my heart found sympathies because it can be devastating to lose a friend especially when you must take part in that decision. i wish you well and GOD BLESS!!!!!!!

this is the kind of thing that has a disclaimer 'do not try this at home'... call your vet for a house call or have a mobile vet come do it. or try calling your local animal shelter, they might be able to help or suggest a better plan of attack (such as them coming to do it or helping you get your dog to the vet) if they work in an animal shelter they also don't want to see your dog suffer. good luck and again don't try this at home, i have seen first hand what can happen when people do and it is very terrible...

Sometimes Vets will come to your home to put the animal "down". Call around and explain the situation and see if you cannot get somebody to come to you. Anything that you might give him could make him suffer more instead of putting him at peace. Where do you live???

I would look for a vet who makes house calls. There are plenty of them around. Your own vet may even be willing to make the call for. The most humane thing to do is to have a vet administer the proper medication, anything else could cause more agony for your dog.

I did a search on Veterinarian House-calls, I think this page should help you get started. Good luck and sorry for your loss.

Definitely do NOT try to euthanize your dog yourself if you are not a professional. Chances are you'll end up with a heartbreak. Call your vet for advice; you may be able to pick something up.

Some vets will come to your home and do it. Depending on your local laws - if you do it yourself, you could be fined for animal cruelty.
