I am a purist and only use charcoal. I feel a gas grill imparts no flavor--it's like an outside stove! This is a big issue among my friends & family, so which do YOU like?

I love charcoal. That's all I use when I'm at school. No matter what charcoal you use, it has better flavor, but gas is so easy, so when I'm cooking at home I use my parents gas grill. Also, something about charcoal makes it a better experience. It's like grilling is an event. Whereas with gas it's not much different than throwing a grate on your stove inside.

Hands down charcoal. It's real grilling and what it was meant to originally be. You get that real outdoor, char, hickory taste. You also have to be a better grill cook with charcoal. You have to monitor the coals. I use a hot iron to start the coals. I hate the smell and taste of lighting fluid. The hot iron takes about 3-5 minutes to heat the coals, but it's worth it.

The pros of gas are simple. The cooking is easier, faster and cleaner. To me it's like cooking on my stove.

I hate charcoal. I'd rather use a gas grill because of it's ease of use and if you want more flavor get a smoker box and fill it with hickory or mesquite chips. I've been known to just use hickory wood in a charcoal grill with excellent results. Charcoal is garbage.

Charcoal! that's the only way to give a natural grilled taste to your meat! Great!
If you're a purist maybe you should taste a special way of grilling from my place, Guadeloupe which is called "boucané". I bet you'd like to it.

I always liked charcoal--though I am now getting used to my brother's gas grill.

Charcoal gives food a better taste, but gas is a lot quicker.

Charcoal, but I always add something like hickory or cherry wood to enhance the flavor.
