Well yes, I do believe this, I think they will give immigrants amnesty and secure the border. But this was just a distraction.
Whats this war all about again?

I don't think they are in any particular hurry to pass anything. The Senate still hasn't delivered their Bill to the House. They know the House is primed to bounce it right back as being unconstitutional. The House has to originate any revenue bills, and the Senate Bill has revenue measures. There are ways to fix it, but they have risks and the Senate is figuring out what to do. Meanwhile, the Republican Senators are trying to rehabilitate themselves with voters by pretending they have a hope of passing all sorts of peculiar bills, and getting them voted down.
Eventually, they will get around to it.
However, the Democrats in the Senate think the Republicans will pay at the polls if they don't pass a bill before November, so they are in no hurry. I don't know that they are right about that, but it means they are happy to stall getting the Bill to the House.
I think that the Democrats and Republicans both are more interested in how they posture the issue for the election then they are about solving the issue.

This will be THE issue of the upcoming elections. Any politician that is running will be forced to choose a side on this issue - and it will no doubt be the end of some political careers. It's not a smoke screen - they may be using other things as a smokescreen to divert our attention away from this issue because it's such a hot potato. And I believe at this point they have no choice BUT to secure the border.

I can tell you this. NOTHING will happen if people don't get involved with the process. They are well organized and very involved, don't kid yourself. Email your leaders about how you feel and defend what is ours and that we won't be colonized. What do you think will come first, WWII or the next civil war?
They ignore crys of our citizens because they want to be friends with Mexico at all costs. I have no problem with immigration, i do with colonization. And if you don't believe me cuz your not down on those border states, I'll send you the links. There have been over 260 'incursions' between the Mexican army and the border patrol to date protecting drug dealers and human smugglers.
Wake Up!
From the above source:
Are you from Texas? Here its a major problem we are funding MILLIONS of people our principles must speak spanish only 1 out of ten people who work at fast food resturants are american, less than half speak English . These people need to get out of here now! I have had friends killed by these people who shouldnt even be here we are insulted and beaten up they take all our construction jobs and their kids take jobs we want. What benefits do Americans get anymore?

I think something will be passed with much continued debate and controversy. The border cannot be secured with the efforts currently being planned. I think that part is a joke for sure. It will be interesting to see if Americans buy into any of this BS and what if any ramifications it will have for elections in 2006 and 2008.

A little yes it was-not all. The demonstrations brought it to the front. And the way it was done.
I think they will stall as long as possible. With their money it doesn't hurt them.
I think-(I don't like it) they will do as little as possible on border but some because of outcry and I think there will be Amnesty for those here. Or most will stay. Again I wish not but life goes on.

I would hate to downplay the importance of Immigration.
But I personally feel that this issue is superceding SO many other important issues.
I am not always politically correct and this is ONLY MY opinion BUT.......politicians always need a platform....an agenda....this one worked.....it will make or break careers.
Will the border be secure?....Well the Mexican border may be.....that seems to be the only concern. Hmmmmm.....do we have a Canadian border?

Progress will be made. But, yes, I think the primary purpose of the debate was to get people riled up about some other issue, and hopefully give the populace a reason to be happy with one political party or another.

That is something I've been wondering about myself. As Gov. of Texas our illustrious president was well aware of the problem before he was elected. Why, after six years in office, is he finally deciding to do something now? Makes me suspicious that's for sure. Was it just a coincidence that the day he gave the big speech on it he also resumed ties with Libya? hmm...

I've been wondering myself, Pancha. Sure worked to make us think of immigration instead of Iran, etc., didn't it?
