If you say ENGLISH, then why do we waste our time requiring spanish to be taught in our schools when most blacks and ricans have problems with ENGLISH? (When I say Blacks I mean those that speak ghetto rap garb ya no homie") and spanish have not a clue what country they are standing in and think everyone should speak spanish, then again we confuse the issue by making spanish a required course in high school)

American English, of course :)

I figure the curriculum then requires us to learn Spanish so that we can become competent in the working world. Remember, English is considered an international language / standardized language, so we will not have a problem, so to have a second language would become a plus when we apply for certain jobs.

As for the persons who have trouble with English - remember, it would be like us learning Spanish - it would become a second language. For them, English would become a second language for them. They will get it eventually.

Oh, keep in mind too, in Language, you have the different levels of the Language Continuum:

Acrolect - Perfect English
Mesolect - a mixture of perfect, standard English, and a bit of dialect.
Baselect - completely dialect / variation of English

The people may speak their slang as their way of communication, due to the coding their use or their environment, BUT once anyone can still understand what they are saying - that is - there is similar usage of words, and expressions, then they, in the American context, would be speaking English.

So, the whole point is ---------- Variation.

Hope that helped.

Though I am now not acquainted with British Signs, international locations do have exceptional phrases in Sign Language. If you wish American Sign Language be taught it in America. And as to the ASL it quite is determined by who you propose to speak to. Some deaf use English signal (SEE-signal)and others use Pidgin Signed English(PSE). Hope this is helping.

"American" is not a language. It's a regional variant of any of several European languages that are spoken in Europe. There is American English, American Spanish (actually, there are several 'American Spanishes'), American Portuguese, American French and American Dutch. I think I'm not forgetting anyone.
