Have been many times.... wide array of reaction.

Have retorted with an insult of my own, have laughed at them maniacly until they got embarrassed, have ignored it completely, have taken it like a woose, have gotten in their face, shoved, told them off, everything short of punching out

This happens to me constantly at my job, with verbal insults and physical altercations. The worst thing to do is insult them back. I usually try to find out what is actually wrong with them and how to fix the problem. In a non-work situation, I would remove myself from the situation. Picking a fight with someone is not smart. You never know who has a concealed weapon and a lot of pent up anger. Unfortunately, most people won't figure that out until they are cut, stabbed, shot, or run off the road by someone they decided to play tough-guy with.

OF COURSE,,
THE qustion you ask promts me to say wha was the
insult? WHAT MIGHT BE AN INSULT TO YOU MAY BE JUST A HONEST OBSERVATGION OR COMMENT FROM A PERSON , AND YOU DID NOT LIKE]
THE COMMENT , OR FELT UNWORTHY OF IT, OR YOU ARE SENSITIVE AND
(I AM THE QUEEN OF THE SENSITIVE WHIMPS), iT WOULD DEPEND ON MY
MOOD, WAS I IN A STRESSFUL MODE, CONTENT, AND THEY RAINED ON MUY PARADE,,,.. OR WAS THE INSULT SOMETHING THEY SAID TO YOU ABOUT YOU THAT IS UNTRUE? When i feel confident, and a jerk, or a person with personality defects insult me, it does not hurt, i may just say something sarcastic back, like what is wrong with you are you constipated,

that is not lady like, but i would say that, or i would just say "YOU ARE PROBABLY RIGHT"..smile and say anything else you need to share?

It depends on who they were and what they were saying. If it were a friend who was criticizing me, I might become defensive at first, but then think about it later and apologize, maybe try to change. If it were a complete stranger then I would not react, maybe just give them a dirty look and walk away because they are not worth my time.

I'd say, "I'm sorry you feel that way," and would excuse myself from that person's presence. I know who I am in God and yes, words do have the power to hurt. Jesus never felt He had to defend His behavior or His teachings, even to the Pharises. What an incredible example of turning the other cheek.

There is enough violence, anger, resentment, bitterness, intolerance, and selfishness in this world that I don't want to add to it.

Though u may want to cuss them out, u need to read 1Samuel 24:12. If u read your bible u know that vengence is the Lord's. If u let God handle it they will get a worse punishment then u could ever do.

I usually say something like "wow, that's a stupid thing to say" and walk off. They are so stunned. It helps if you don't give a flying rat's @$$ what that particular person thinks. I think it ticks them off by NOT getting mad or reacting!

Come back with a much wittier insult,

or just laugh to give myself time to plan my next move.

Depends. No one can insult you as long as you don't believe what they're saying, so I figure, as long as you don't take what they're saying to heart, then they're not insulting you, they're just being insecure and trying to make themselves feel better.

Tell them that the comment was an immature way of dealing with a situation and tell them that you would be happy to converse with them once they are able to leave the personal comments out of it. After this, don't seek them out, make them find you and make them apologize for their rudeness.
