That's because they love the smell, so in order to keep it, they roll in it. That way, the scent rubs all over them, and they can smell it anytime they want to. Humans like perfume, dogs like roadkill.

being an avid dog lover i had always wondered why myself. then a few years ago the discovery channel did a special called DOGS . they explained what should have been the obvious to us humans. dogs are basically domesticated wolfs. canis familiaris vs. canis lupus. wolfs are predatory animals and hunt to survive. any hunter knows that you need to mask your smell if you want to be successful in killing prey. so dogs are just doing the instinctive thing of masking their odor and all the human scent that we put on them when we love them. purely survival driven. so bath your little wolf and hope he doesn't find something stinky too soon!!!

they try to kill there body order by covering it up with any "natural" like sent.
