omg that poor dog you and your mom are such good people for doing that for him or her! wat you should do is just tell the truth get the vet papers show it to the judge theve gotta understand that the other person cant take the dog back! if the person takes the dog back they are just gonna abuse it again! if the judge gives the dog back that is unjust! if that happened to me someone would have to hold me back cas that person would be dead! I HOPE EVERYTHING WORKS OUT NO DOG SHOULD BE TREATED THAT WAY !

Tell the original jerk that she can have the dog back after she pays for the vet bills and the food and $40 a day for boarding the dog for her for two months. She has no proof that the papers in her hand belong to the dog in your house. Tell her if she doesn't stop bothering you, you'll get an order of protection against her and have her arrested for harassment. Next time though, get a bill of sale in writing and pay $1 for any dog you adopt to make it legal.

Your mom should get a written report from the vet of the dates of the visits, the condition of the dog, and the treatments that the dog received , and a list of all the costs. Also, statements from anyone who knows that the other woman gave the dog to her, pix taken of the dog when she first got it, etc to show what condition it was in.

You have the vet bills and the dog that is pretty good proof that it's yours. Tell the lady to go ahead and call the cops and you will turn her in for animal abuse....

Does the dog have a microchip or tattoo? Is DNA on file with AKC? If not, it'd be pretty hard for her to prove that it's the same dog. Sounds like a horrible situation to be in... really sorry to hear it.

I wouldnt worry about it. This other person has no proof she didnt. Plus your mom has vet bills showing the dog was neglected and if this person wants to play that game....then let her bring it on because I'm sure your local ASPCA would get involved and help you.

She's bluffing. And if not, let her call the cops. When the cops arrive, explain that the dog was gifted to your mother and that she paid for necessary veterinarian bills. The cops will say "it sounds like a civil matter" and then they will leave. Don't let her intimidate you.

contact the police to place a restraining order on the original owner and if they give you any hard times contact the police again and also get the info from your vet to have that person charged with animal abuse.

Make the old owner pay the vet bill. If that doesn't work tell him or
her that he or she will be reported on charges of animal abuse.

Go to the vet's office and have them print up receipts stating that what your mother had to do for that dog and when she did it.
