As a Catholic, the cross is important because it is a reminder of Jesus following God's will. In the Garden at Gethsemane, Jesus asked permission to be released from the pain. (Mt 26:36-46) The fact that he followed through with the trial and and carrying his cross to Golgotha shows his obedience to God. That is why we focus on the Crucifixion. It is a conscious reminder of Jesus' obedience to God even to the point of death.

He died on the cross to save us from our sins. That is why Christians think about the cross more than Him sweating blood in Gethsemane.

I think the Cross is a powerful symbol of the whole passion event. The Garden was an awesome triumph, but the agony of being separated from His Father might well have been the crux of the event.

the idea is that jesus death(sacrifice) on the cross was the supream sacrifice that finally paid the sin debt of the entire world. without this there would be no loving forgivness from the father. they see the crucifixtion as the crowning victory of god, over the devil; and that's why they say the devil is going to be pissed when he is cast to the earth, knowing that from then he only has a short time.
christians see the crucifixtion as proof that god loves everyone, jew and gentile. and see it as the most important event in the history of the world.
that's why they focus on the cross.

Everything Jesus did was important of course. The cross is where He took our sins upon Himself--paid the price. Pretty important. He did alot of bleeding. Especially on the cross.

Not sure what you mean by the main part, but the most significant events for humans were Christ's suffering and death on the cross to take away our sins, and His resurrection to give us eternal life.

Well, for starters the cross was where Jesus was crucified, it's where he took his last breath, it's where he was tortured, it's where he died. So it holds an important meaning to christians everywhere.

The CROSS is so important to Christians becasue without Jesus' death on the cross and shedding his blood for our sins at the cross, we would not have the gift of SALVATION thru Jesus Christ. The four Gospels tell 4 variations of what occurred in the Garden, but this was prior to Jesus being nailed to the CROSS and dying. He was alive in the Garden and suffered much for us after he was arrested in the Garden, put on trial , beaten, spat upon, humiliated and ultimitley nailed to the CROSS.
Four Gospels description of Garden below:
Matthew 26 (New International Version)
36Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, "Sit here while I go over there and pray." 37He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38Then he said to them, "My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me."
39Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will."
40Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. "Could you men not keep watch with me for one hour?" he asked Peter. 41"Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak."
Mark 14 (New International Version)
32They went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples, "Sit here while I pray." 33He took Peter, James and John along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled. 34"My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death," he said to them. "Stay here and keep watch."
35Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour might pass from him. 36"Abba,[e] Father," he said, "everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will."
37Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. "
Luke 22 (New International Version)
39Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him. 40On reaching the place, he said to them, "Pray that you will not fall into temptation." 41He withdrew about a stone's throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, 42"Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done." 43An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. 44And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.[c]
John 18 (New International Version)
1When he had finished praying, Jesus left with his disciples and crossed the Kidron Valley. On the other side there was an olive grove, and he and his disciples went into it.
In the Garden when Jesus bleed, it was not when he died. Probable definition of what occurred in the Garden below:
Hematidrosis
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search
Hematidrosis (also called hematohidrosis) is a very rare condition in which a human being sweats blood. It may occur when a person is suffering extreme levels of stress, for example, facing his or her own death.
A case was described by Leonardo da Vinci: describing a soldier who sweated blood before battle. Some have suggested Jesus of Nazareth (of Christian prominence) experienced hematidrosis when he was praying in the garden of Gethsemane and knew he would soon die.
