I always heard they say "God Bless You" when you sneeze because your heart stops for that second, but that could just be an old wifes tale.

In Spain they say "Good Health" the first time you sneeze, "Money" the second time, and "Death" the third time. LOL, I thought that is kind of funny.

Some old guy at a nursing home once told me that in the olden days, if a person sneezed, it meant that their soul was trying to escape from their bodies and the only way to save it was for someone to say God bless you.

God bless you, and don't let the devil snatch your soul.

In olden times people thought that your spirit left your body when you sneezed. So in order to make sure that you were able to return to your body and not some other, malevolent spirit, people blessed you. So it became custom to say "God Bless you" when you sneezed.
