I think any of them will do good. Power brings its own responsibilities and both these countries may have a shady history but now the times have changed and we cannot measure tomorrow with yesterdays yardstick

I doubt that the US will be better off with Russia or China gaining military momentum over it. Every one wants to be king of the mountain but I seriously doubt that those two wannabes would be nearly as magnanimous as the US.
We all know the flack the US takes both domestically and from abroad. We also know the US is far from perfect.
Has anyone thought how Putin would react if he become the leader of the most powerful nation on earth? Hell, he has a tough time now, in containing his dictatorial instincts. His old KGB mentality becomes more and more apparent, as do the human rights abuses the Soviets were noted for fifteen or so years ago!
Other than N.Korea, I can't think of another country on earth, other than Iran, that would like to see China as a super power. The facts are, no country really trust the Chi - Coms, and that's a fact Jack. Even Vietnam is considering a military pact with the US, mainly because of their mistrust of China.
Before you pull these kind of questions out of your as*s, it would be well if you kept up on current events.

Both of these countries have a recent (i.e. past 100 years) history of wanting to expand their territory using force. America does not. For this reason, I think the world would be dangerous if ~only~ China or Russia were a superpower because they may want to start invading other countries.
Russia would want to gradually re-build its nuclear stockpile and gradually force countries into submission.
China would want to be fast and decisive, but also careful not to damage its economy. Think of China as 1930s Germany... building an economy and a military.

Historically there's not much to choose between them.
America, China and Russia have all used the mass extermination of other races as official policy which is why the native americans have been marginalised.
Russia and China have both used slave labour on a massive scale but so has the USA and their society is still suffering the after effects.

No, we would not be better off. The scary part of that scenario is that we may not have a choice in the near future if we do not get our government spending under control. According to one report we are on pace to have our credit rating changed to that of a THIRD WORLD COUNTRY within the next ten years if we continue to spend at the rates we currently do. Not fear mongering, just pointing this out. And this spending is primarily in healthcare and social security and it's being spent just as rapidly by Republicans as it is Democrats. Please check for yourselves, but WE THE PEOPLE have got to do something about this immediately.

Both of these countries have a history of putting to death hundreds of millions of their own citizens for no reason at all.
So, no, the world would not be better off in their hands. If you were being starved to death in a slave labor camp instead of enjoying your opulent US lifestyle, you wouldn't think so either.
