Since "Actions speak louder than words"... saying anything while beating the holy living crap out of them would probably be the nastiest thing...

As far as just talk... What offends somone varies from person to person... take for example:

nighthawk_84 is a halfwit neoconservative facisit, that is even lower than a liberal, on a level that is compable to Adolf Hitler, and his parties best freind, the comunist dictator of China (sorry, I needed an example, and I don't like conservative ideologs)... note that if he reads this, his response will probably be quite "strong worded"... as this was obviously a "nasty" thing to say to a republican (since he obviously hates liberals... cat/mouse theory... republican/democrat) (and no, I'm not a liberal, nor a conservative, nor a statist [which is the current political position of the republican party]... I am a libertarian)...

If I said the same to most other people... they would either just go: "huh?", or wounder what provoked me to say such things, possibly just shrugging it off completly... but the above mentioned individule will find my factual statement highly offensive... and may even attempt (however futilely) to defend his facist viewpoint, much like the neoliberals he so describes...

I hope this exaple helps you understand, why some people are more offended than others by the same statement... hopefuly, the fore-mentioned individule will respond, and you will see first hand!... sadly, since I have not met him, I dobt it was the nastiest thing I could have said to him, but with just the information he provided in his answer, it was the best I could do...

Say nothing. The nastiest thing you can do to a person is ignore them as if they don't exist.

I think that nastiest way to offend someone is not said but done. Indifference hurts more that all the offensive words in the world together

Not sure...but the nastiest thing you can DO, is spit on them. That's crossing the line, it's intentional, and it's an invitation for some major ***-kicking.

it is f*** you.
Even thought it doest have an official definition it is the lowest verbal insult that one person (in teh western culture) can give another. The rough definition is"

Not only do I have no respect for you and hold you in the lowest regard; and not only is what you have said (or done) simply the most assinine action that enyone has ever undertaken; you are an absolute idiot and I am uterly and absolutely superior to you.

Don't waste your time insulting the person. Insult their family or children. It is wrong, it is terrible, but it is the very nastiest thing you can say.

"You act like a Democrat" is the nastiest thing to say to someone.

I agree with some people here that ignoring a person is nastier than just insulting them. The opposite of love is not hate, it's indiference.
