You've answered your own question the best. The answer is simply pride. Pride makes a person not want to admit when they are wrong or when they sin. That is why pride is one of (if not the) most dangerous sins. I can't explain it any better than you just did. I can only agree with you and say Amen.

Because people by and large do not want to sin, yet want to do the things they want to do. As an example, priests for generations and generations have abused their parishioners, but have been excused by an all-forgiving catholic structure. Therefore, those priests have remained holy in the view of the church.
Since those same priests have asked forgiveness for, and also forgiven all, they too will enjoy the same fruits in heaven as anyone else who has attained eternal bliss.
Only in this most recent past is the view that a priest can't have his way with a person going to be viewed by the church as sinning, and only because overall society has demanded that this be viewed as a sin, since it is a crime.
Man's view of sin is the only one that matters, since it is he and only he that makes anything a sin or crime.

Their first mistake is relying on the teachings of man and not the word of God. The Bible is what they should follow. Repent to the Lord. Confess your sins to Him. People know what is a sin. No one has to tell them. The Holy Spirit within you warns you of wrong doing. Even those without God know the difference between right and wrong. They just care more about their own desires more than God's. I believe that God speaks to all of us in one way or another. The good and evil alike because He does not want any of us to be lost.

I believe many people don't want to be told they are wrong. They want to think that they don't need God to get to Heaven. I am a Christian and just went on a missions trip, most people also thought that they could get to Heaven by being "good". They had no idea that sin was standing in the way. That could be another reason people don't care. They may think sin just doesn't matter.

Pride is a tough issue. So is the need for penance.
Don't kid yourself, EVERYONE knows when a sin is a sin. Their conscience tells them. The difference IS, whether they choose to pay attention to it or NOT.
Then comes the trip to the confessional. They already KNOW they have sinned, but they want it purged from their guilty conscience....again, to reinforce their weak-minded effort on their OWN behalf.
The priest, being NOT perfect himself, understands and tries to make them feel better and says 'ten Hail Marys" and all shall be forgiven, isn't that convenient?

I didn't do any research on this, so I really wouldn't know completely, but I'd say because in a person sins, the Catholic God would forgive them if they continued to pray, as in their religion. But I wouldn't know, I'm Christian! I would suggest you do more research and go to your local Catholic church and find out from a priest.

for the same reason people want governments to say their money is worth something, but neither have any real value at all, but both are usable and workable
Take religion verse's money, they both materialized the same way out of nothing, but the idea of both have the same root, except one must be physically earned and the other must be mentally earned, they wash each others hands
one is used for daily bread
you must work to eat
one is used for forgiveness of forcing the daily bread
The bosses that must get the work done for the master, or he will not eat his daily bread
neither have real value, the were both made up or given by / still used by aliens, because there is no god that would allow what go's on in the world today or at anytime period

Confession is supposed to be sincerely repenting to a priest. It's actually hard to confess all of your sins to a priest that you have known your whole life. It makes you want to change, and be better, because you feel so bad after you actually remember all of your sins. They aren't telling us a sin isn't a sin...

Because when you confess your sin,you confess it to God,not priest.Priest is just a "Chanel".He is there so that you can feel free to say you secret to a human figure. To make long story short,in priest you see a friend and another human being, but God is he one who listen.
