Feeling overly guilty is a symptom of depression. You might want to talk to your doc about your feelings, so that if treatment is needed, you can get better.

To be honest, it's quite possible that your parents always told you that you were "bad" about things. That things that happened were "all your fault".....even when the things were essentailly trivial........or in situations that truely *were* important ones.

If you keep getting that message as a child, it's like you incorporate it inside yourself, and cary their harmful words around with you in ways that are truely hard to escape. Think back and see if you can remember "them" saying the same things that you now tell yourself.

Can you remember anything like that ??

If you can......well that's a clue.

One way to help with this is to realize that...guess what? : as a fellow member of the human race, you are quite likely to scr*w up with some degree of regularity, even if you try your hardest not to.

I mean...join the club....everyone else does to. And my guess is that, at least with people who have proven their affection for you......you are able to cut them some slack when they are not at their best.

So......you deserve the same ??

Step back and see if you can locate some *good* and caring things you have done in your life.

I mean.....a truely bad person would never have done those things, so....there's another clue.

And think about how bad you feel when you do make mistakes.

Once again, a "real jerk" would never even bother their minds about such things.....so there's a third clue.

And.....like I said....can you remember your folks telling you the sort of harsh things you now tell yourself ??

My guess is that you are a good person, so hopefully you can get to where you forgive yourself in the same way that you forgive others ??

Good luck. You probably don't deserve the rough judgments you pass on yourself, and are a "good enough" person to deserve an ongoing life in this world.

You think ??

If you are feeling that guilty about things that happened, at least you have to feel good about the fact that you are still human, as people who are not human ,"without a conscience", can do anything bad ,and feel no remorse at all. God forgives, and you feel a need of repentence find a spirtiual person who will not condem you, and unload. go out in the world and do good for others, as that is our real reason on earth.........

See site below with a brand new religion that deals with this. It explains why the following works. Go out and help someone or somewhere like children's hospital (volunteer work), homeless shelter or give attention to a friends kids who is too busy to give them their attention etc. Or find a homeless guy on street and treat him to dinner.

I've done many a stupid thing in my life that I could regret, but I moved on and learned from my mistakes so that I do not repeat the same ones. I may do other stupid things, but hopefully not the same ones.

I feel the same way! I remember when I had a fight with my best friend ten years ago, it still torments me everyday. I just deal with it. I refuse to go to a shrink so they can stick me on pills that will screw up my brain.

You may benefit from Anti-Anxiety medication, or perhaps a herbal alternative since it seems mild
