The founding fathers did use God in their stately lives as well as their private lives. They did not make Christianity the official religion because they were about freedom and did not think it right to force a belief system on another. On the other hand, they never imagined that Christianity would become so hated by the citizens either. My rights as a Christian have been trampled on. My child can not say a silent prayer in school without fear of reprimand. Yet they will teach Islam in current events. Any walmart worker can not wish me a merry christmas or happy easter, because it may offend someone......Well....now I'm offended! Who stands up for my right to freedom of religion??? The founding fathers established prayer in the schools. Yet someone came along and twisted the part about seperation of church and state. That was designed to keep government out of religion.....Not the other way around....

Actually, 8 of the states when the constitution was made "Law of the Land" had official religions. If you understood the concerns of the founding fathers at the time of the birth of the nation, you would understand that they believed in the concept of separation of state/federal powers (9th and 10th amendment). The constitution said nothing about an official religion because it was felt that it was a matter for the states.
Do YOU understand THAT ?

Actually, they did make Christianity the STATE religion. Several of the individual state (such as PA) required all citizens to attend and support a specific Christian church. The Constitution however forbid the FEDERAL government from establishing one specific church. Many of the people who came to America did so because their religious belief (whether the Pilgrims or the Puritans in New England, or the Catholics in the Carolinas) were restricted in England. So they past an amendment to the Constitutions (wasn't in the original document) to assure that people where free to worship as they pleased.

Most of the founding fathers were atheists and they established the US as an atheist (secular) nation for that reason.
They had seen the Christian equivalent to the Taliban of the time in Europe and did not want to give it a home in the US. Unfortunately, many Americans are really stupid, so here we are with 5 of the 9 US Supreme Court Justices paying allegiance to the Catholic church rather than the Constitution.

Yes Sir. Sometimes when people have a belief they (in their thoughts) warp history or reality to suit said belief. Otherwise, they would realize their poor reasoning and lack of understanding. They would then realize they have been so wrong for so long that it would be humiliating. One of the amendments could have said, "No Christian nation," but they would still twist that. Reasoning does not work on very religious people because to be very religious, one must lack reasoning.

Freedom of religion was the reason they came from England. They did not want to have it dictated to everyone in the New World.
The sects of religions that are trying to force it on us today are doing the usual thing-they think it is best for the rest of us, we don't know any better. We should be thankfull they are watching out for us poor huddled masses.

America was founded on the pretenses of religious freedom, they were being persecuted in Europe so the settlers came to America so they could practice what religion they choose freely.

they just didn't want one specific religion to be the official state religion like it was in England. They realized if they did that, then there would be more persecution and more unhappy people then there were.

Freedom of religion was the main reason they left England, wasn't it? Why impose a particular religion here then?
