Is there a certain type of tooth paste you are supposed to use if you have braces? Do you just use any old toothpaste?

Well, I was asking because some people say you shouldn't use whitening toothpaste because it will make your teeth around the braces whiter than where the braces are when your get them off.

I have braces for 8 months and I use a non-whitening toothpaste I heard that if you use a whitening toothpaste then you will get a yellow spot on each teeth when you get your braces off. See, I told my mom and everyone in my whole family uses the same toothpaste and so she bought me a different toothpaste and I use "AQUAFRESH EXTREME CLEAN" it doesn't whiten your teeth but cleans it. If you are the only one using it then it will last you 8 months. Since braces you have to clean you teeth really well so I use a powered toothbrush. HOPE THIS HELPS

I'm sure you could ask your orthodontist.

Things may have changed since I had braces (8 years ago), but I know that just using any toothpaste was the most important. You do want to be really good about your flossing and brushing, so you don't end up with inflamed gums and little white spots on your teeth (If your teeth get more colored than where was protected by the braces).

I have braces too, and no there isn't any certain toothpaste you need to use. You can use anything from crest to colgate, and it wont affect them at all. However, you might want to ask your orthodontist about a special kind of flouride paste for the metal in your braces, I use that after brushing with normal toothpaste and the fouride will keep the metal shiny, and keep them from eroding.

No. But I use two special toothbrush that was given to me by the dentist.

And one more thing! I think that it isn't good if you use whitening toothpaste. Because when your braces got off, the part where the braces were on, will be yellowish. That isn't nice.

The doctor gives you the small toothpaste sample. Then, you must use the exact same kind of toothpaste on the sample's label.

Its that matters most that how you are going to brush your teeth rather than changing a toothpaste. so its ok whichever tooth paste you want to use ,but pease take good care of teeth, avoid sticky food specially which is difficult to clean, floss almost regularly n mantain your gums without giving opportunity to develop inflammation of gums.

You can use any tooth paste you want. I just got braces too! I like Aquafresh but only because it whitens my teeth.

It doesn't matter what kind of toothpaste you use when you have braces.

Any toothpaste will work, hun. Braces are just metal, nothing will happen.
