I ask because three of us took a lift with a guy we know, but not well, and one person hogged the best seat both going there & coming back. Two of us would always swap over and offer the seat to others on the way back (2-hr trip). My neighbour says no way, she'd make a point of getting the good seat again. So now we are wondering were they rude to hop in front again, or not? Doesn't everyone switch around? Or not? LOL, the hogger was someone the driver didn't want to give a lift to anyway1

Yes, it's most polite to offer up the front passenger seat to other occupants before grabbing it for yourself a second time. And besides, what if one of your traveling companions gets sick in the back? Going and returning, both as a backseat passenger, gets me sick, I have to change around.

HEY ! If you call out "SHOTGUN" first, no one has a claim to the front passenger seat on that trip.

Depends on the arrangement. Why didn't you ask if you wanted the seat.

It would be nice to offer but I have never heard of it being a rule.

Well, if it's only you and me, you don't want to swap seats with me. I cannot drive.
