But I did say "Snob" because of my experience with the people that were at this ritzy ski resort. They all ate fries with a fork and shoot, I's just a po' country gal who never seen nuthin' like that before, so to me, they WERE all snobs, not only because of their eating habits, but because they were SNOBS!

You can cut your big piece of lettuce up with a fork. It's just when you are among these socialites and every one of them is doing this Knife and Fork thing...well....

I'm far from being a snob when it comes to eating maybe a slob, lol. I use my fingers to pick up my chicken to eat, I pile the salad into my mouth, I dont need to CUT it up,heck it usually falls off my fork before I get it into my mouth then I have to pick it off my clothes( that tastes better, a piece of lint attached to salad dressing), with my fingers I put it back into my mouth, . I slurp my soup, and suck all my drink up til I know its empty from the sound it makes at the bottom of my cup. I was born down south, and if you dont like my eating habits, dont turn around and gock at me unless you want me to ask ," what the frig are you looking at", or " keep staring and you will see something pretty"

A snob, guilty of snobbery, is a person that adopts the world-view that other people are inherently inferior for any one of a variety of reasons including supposed intellect, wealth, education, ancestry, etc. People assume that others that use more formal manners are snobs, but it simply is not true. Some people just have different ways of doing things than we do.
Now, if you mean a REAL snob....someone who may do everything you mentioned JUST to try to convince the world that they're better than others...I love to sit by those folks in a restaurant with all of my noisy friends and family...lol.
Okay, now how do I eat? Well, I eat a salad with a fork. If a piece is too big to fit (I have a small concurvature inside my mouth, as well as a smaller mouth in general), then of course I cut it with a knife! Who wants bleu cheese on their cheeks? I eat nice neat french fries with my fingers, but if they're the bottom ones with ketchup all over them...well, sure I'd use a fork. This is ESPECIALLY true if other people are sharing anything with me....like appetizers. I don't want my finger slobber on someone else's food...good grief! BBQ ribs are traditionally served in restaurants with hand-washing bowls or those little packets, and a BIG pile of extra napkins. If there are none of these, and the ribs are particularly messy...sure I'd use a knife. Then when I got past the messy part, I'd pick them up. If I'm at a BBQ, camping, or anything else...I pick em right up. But if there's chips and dips going around...you can bet I'm watching to see who's eating their ribs and then dipping into the chip bowl with their licked fingers...YUCK! The same person double dips....eww...okay with family, but not NOT okay with anyone else.

I'm not a big SNOB. I do chop my salad (with a knife and fork). I eat french fries with my mouth after placing them in there with my fingers. I take an individual BBQ rib and bite the side taking off the meat on it.

You forgot to mention THOSE people who eat a piece of pizza with a knife and a fork! If you are too "proper" to eat an "average Joe" kind of food the "average Joe" way then you don't deserve to eat pizza. No pizza for you!
What was the question again? Oh yeah. No I do not cut up my salad, and I do not eat plain old french fries with a fork(I do use one with poutine though).

If I'm in a restaurant or sharing an appetizer with other people, I tend to be a little squeamish about sticking my grubby fingers in or being seen with pizza goo all over my face...so I do the prissy prim thing and use my knife and fork! If I get one of those salads with huge pieces of lettuce (I hate when that happens), I chop it up with a knife. But otherwise, I dig in with my hands and snorf it all down!

Not big enough to ignore you. I don't think it is snobbish to use a fork and knife to eat salad.
