If you aren't sure, don't do it.
If you do it, don't do it half way, go full active and get all you can out of the benefits.

advantages are- you don't have to worry about haveing food to eat, or a place to live. So you can spend all your money on anything you want to. ( I don't suggest it though. ) You don't need to be smart, or work hard to get promoted, just look the rightway, and do what you are told, and sometimes suck some,, you know, whatever it takes at the time. However that is a disadvantage if you have a brain and don't believe in brown nosing. You get to go to Iraq, and other thirdworld countries. most of these things can be both good or bad, or good and bad. You can get power and awards in the army. The best thing about it, is really that they will pay you to learn whatever job you want to. You just need to research the jobs available and make sure that is what you really want to do. 16 is the age of consent on any military post, and everyone has to go by the usmj when on post. Outside laws don't apply...
bad things- You might have some idiot ruling over you, the army does totally sckrew many people over. There are many idiots for leaders.( not all of them though ) Long days, It supports gender-discrimination, and has a hitleresque mentality. you could be in longer than expected. It's very stressfull, when you care about the people around you, cuz you will constantly see people getting skrew, Many of your freedoms will be taken away. You get uste to people planning your life all the time and telling you what to do, and can easily become lazy to think for yourself.

ive spent 5 years in the national gaurd and in my opinion you should join the military.
you shouldnt start a business cause youre too young and you dont know anything. plus you probably dont have any money. how do you get money? join the military
certian jobs in the gaurd now have an enlistment bonus of $20,000!
-plus all of your college is paid for
-plus youll get about $1000 a month when youre in college
-be trained to do a real world job
-see countries all over the world. (ive been to Panama, Kuwait, and Iraq)
-you might regret it all your life if you dont spend some time in a combat zone
-you WILL meet new people and get a much better world view
-the re-enlistment bonus is now $15,000
-if youre a veteran you can get an additional $35,000 for college and a VA home loan which means youre guaranteed to be approved with zero money down and poor credit!
theres a million reasons why you should join the military. you will grow as a person, youll get lots of money and training, and you only have a window of oppertunity to do it while youre young.
good luck and try to have fun!

First, as much as I wish I could provide you with all the information you need to know to join, I can't, you need to do extensive research on your own. Look at all aspects of the diferent branches, the jobs offered, the skills required for those, etc. You can do everything from "killin" to working on computers, flying state of the art fighter jets, developing weapons, working on a ship...nearly anything you want to do you can in the military. It is a great life in many ways. Medical, dental, housing--everything is taken care of if you go active duty. You could live on base (which isnt as bad as people who have never done so say), or live off base and get paid a housing allowence to pay (or help pay) for your mortgage or rent. You learn countless thinks about yourself during training and work...you already seem like a dedicated and motivated person--keep it up. If you decide to not make the military a career, after discharge employers will look very highly on your military service (especially if you have a degree--whcih the military can help you pay for). And one of the biggest pros, the feeling of accomplishment that comes with it. Knowing that you have been a part of something so much greater than yourself. I would suggest looking into officer programs such as ROTC, PLC, the Academies, but either way...good luck. Rmember you should always expect/join with the thought you could go to war but depending on branch of service and/or job, you may never see combat. Crap--you may never go outside the US,
feel free to IM me on AOL at smeagolyduck13 or e-mail me if you have any questions or would like to talk about your decision. Sorry this was so long (I could continue)

My boyfriend is in the Navy and it has been hard on him. He is halfway around the world, away from friends and family, gets little to no sleep and gets paid crap (about $20,000 a year after 2 years in the millitary). But, on the plus side, he has complete job security and marketable skills when he finishes his enlistment. Plus, money for college should he choose to take advantage of it.
If you do decide to join up, join the air force! They are the most spoiled branch of the military!

You must learn how to kill and be killed. Just remember this. College is much better. When you get out of the military it will be hard for you to get a job. Out of College and there will be all kinds of jobs.

no i dont think so they like tricking people to get you in and then tell you that you cant have promises because you didnt get it in writing. I know this because friends i know had this problem. Plus they dont want to help you or claim your medical problems if you get injuried or ill because of them. I watched my dad and uncles die for years and didnt get help. why the goverment didnt claim what happened. They were sprayed with poisons and it passed to my cousins and there kids. is it worth it? no. You are fighting for other countries that dont want your help also.

Well, any career that has in its job description "learn how to kill and possibly die" would be low on my list of options.
But it's your decision.
