The last few years my cat and I have an understanding. He goes outside to play and then when he comes in he behaves... Now, the last several days he is not interested in going outside. It seems a little like he might be depressed. Normally the cat would have torn things up around the house and broken some windows by now. I am not sure if the cat is just depressed from losing some friend, or is sick. I can imagine either case to be true... At the same time though, the cat eats normally, hangs out with me like normal, and grooms like normal... I have tried to ask it what the heck is up... Got me wierded out now. Has anyone had this happen to them? Did you figure out what it was? I am interested in hearing what you guys think about this one... I will check in on answers and leave more info if you ask for it... Thanks!

I am going to see if I get all of these added details right... The cat uses the litter box inside and does what needs to be done outside as well. I have always been pretty busy with work, so I think the cat has gotten used to seeing me when he sees me... I did just finish a pretty hard core stint at work a little more then a week ago (lasted for a few weeks). But the cat started this a few days afterwards.

That is strange. Perhaps something happened outside that he is now afraid of... neighborhood dogs, other male cats, the kid next door, who knows.

If he doesn't seem to be sick, or have any injuries, I wouldn't worry about it. Sounds like a phase, and something that will pass. Enjoy the fact that he is inside without tearing up your house!

It could be that the cat has just lost a friend, or something or someone was abusing it while it was outside. look for cuts or limping or anything out of the ordinary. If u just started a job or started spending less time with it then it could be depressed as well.

Maybe he finally matured. As long as he seems normal and eats and potties normally, then I see no problem with it. If it worries you or something else does not seem quite right, have him checked by the vet. Could be something wrong, depressed, or maybe he just grew up. Not sure there. I would still recommend a vet check up to be on the safe side.

I had a cat that did that and is doing this now. She acts like she thinks she is human and kind of down. The first time she did this I dreamed she was talking to me and told me what was going on over in Iraq! She was telling me about the battles, etc. Weird!
Not sure why they do this to be honest.

Does your cat go outside in order to go to the bathroom?
