Every time I hit the apostrophe key (next to the enter key, without using shift for quotes) My cursor opens up the find function (like cntrl F) and brings my cursor to the bottom of the screen.

How do I stop this without closing out my window and reopening it.

I know how to close the find box with the red x.

I did something (more than once) that makes the ' key open a new find box every time I hit it.

The only way to stop it that I have found is to close out the window and reopen a new one. it is quite annoying when it happens.

It was a feature introduced a long time ago, before the Findbar even existed, to make searching easier. Searches occurred then whenever you typed on a page. The shortcuts were so that you could turn on and off find-as-you-type easily. The apostrophe and backslash even do different things. Apostrophe searches only links, and backslash the whole page.. or at least that's how they used to work. It's a bit of a hold-over feature now, but I think some important people would probably go nuts if they were removed.

Type "about:config" in the address bar (without the quotes) in firefox, and search for find.

accessibility.typeaheadfind.flashBar user set integer 0
to...
accessibility.typeaheadfind.flashBar default integer 1

The controller is in accessibility.typeaheadfind so you might want to try changing the value to the one that controls the apostrophe defaulting to the FIND box. Once you disable it, you should no longer be getting that problem.

That should fix it permanently.

Yes, you can close the find box by pressing the x to the left of it, or you can just get Opera!

There is a cross to the left of the word find. Press it..

Actually, it's an x not a cross. But, hey I like this. I didn't know it was there.
