There is no single straightforward answer to this question.
The amount of energy used is affected by:
- the total mass moved = you + bike,
- the speed at which you cycle,
- the smoothness of the terrain - more energy is used cycling over grass or rough ground than on a smooth surface,
- whether there are any hills,
- whether the wind is against you, etc.
You will find some information on the page refered to below.
Bear in mind that a 300g chocolate bar takes about 5 miles of steady walking to use up! The greatest help in weight loss comes from eating less energy-food (fat, starch & sugar).

It depends. You burn more calories when you go up hill compared to down hill. It all depends on how hard you are biking.

It depends on your body weight and the amount of effort you put into riding, but generally about 400 calories for one hour of riding. See the link below.

Get one of those things to strap to yourself (they have them at Walmart) that tells you how far you went and how many calories you burned...they are cheap, just a couple dollars!!!

It's going to depend on how much you weigh, and where you're cycling.
