I have heard it said that if men don't mention their girlfriend (not lying that they are single, just not talking about them at all) its a sign that they are interested in you. And they don't mention the other woman in case it spoils their chances with you. I'd be inclined to believe it as surely talking about your partner is a way of showing everyone you're taken? What do you think?

I don't mean someone you've only just met. Some one you have known for years and you know has a steady partner because you have heard mutual aquantences speak about her so he clearly talks about her to them - but NEVER to you? Not once??

I think it's not just to avoid spoiling their chances with you. It could be an attempt to not spoil the moment. I met a guy and we talked for a bit and i later found out he has a wife. but if i knew that i probably would have cut the conversation a little shorter possibly... and he wasn't hitting on me. it was just an exciting conversation.

hard to say, i think some mention their partners when they feel they need to show they are taken, that's fine. but i don't think they necessarily refrain from mentioning their partners to see if they have chances with someone else.

It depends... if it's a casual and short conversation, maybe they don't mention their partner because they just don't see you as a romantic possibility, or maybe because they don't know you that well, or don't consider it relevant, or because they simply forget about it.

However, if you talk to the man in question repeatedly, and he becomes your aquaintance or even your friend, and he never mentions he has a partner, well then it's obvious that he's interested in you or in someone you know.

To be fair, it isn't like when a girl or co-worker has a conversation with you that you will imediatly say "stay away from me, I have a girlfriend!" I think that if they are obviously misleading the other person it is wrong, but it doesn't always enter into the conversation.

As a man, I agree. If someone wants to leave open the possibility of getting together with a woman, he's not going to shut it down by saying he's otherwise taken.

it means they want there cake , and there ice cream too so to
speak, an that person you need to stay far away as possible he
playing games, and that not good in the long run. if he doesn't have respect for her, then how much respect is he going to have
for the other person he trying to get with, especially if you know
that he has a partners.

you just might know who it is hes just not telling you because it might be your best friend like we always say but only some of us mean it obviousle we dont want to hurt you so he skipps the real part of telling you by changing the subject every now and then and also gives short firm answers making you believe hes speaking the WHOLE truth yet he might be hiding something wheter it is bad that you have to figure out.

I think it depends on the guy. I've learned some guys just don't like mentioning girls they are dating unless they feel it is getting serious. But, I'm a girl - so I could be totally wrong.

It's true if a guy doesn't talk about his girlfriend around you he is probably interested in you. My girlfriend is the best and I want to tell everyone I know how awesome she is. I'm blessed to have her.

Yes of course. They dont mention it to keep the options open. But why get mixed up with someone like this ? They will do it to you one day.

i think that another reason is because they wanna stay in the 'market', and that doesn't necessarily mean they're interested in YOU, they just wanna give the general impression they're available to whoever they might be interested in next.
