I just wanted to add that these songs are for my husband who just became a new father... this is his first father's day, and I want to include a personal CD amongst his gifts. He's very sentimental and into (and affected by) music, crying at those about relationships. He LOVES being a Dad and I want to choose songs that reflect how it touches his heart to just hold his son, laugh with him, and how proud he feels when he thinks of his own wonderful father.
I simply don't listen to music myself and don't know what songs to choose! But I will listen to samples of your suggested ones, and from those, choose which ones to buy. Thanks for your help!

The Living Years by Mike & The Mechanics - very evocative and specifically about a father and son (although admittedly it's the son talking about how he wished he'd told his dad he loved him when his dad was still alive, so perhaps slightly morbid - not sure you'd get that from the lyrics though)

The best songs your father can have from you, are the ones which he grew up with, for instance, when he was a teenager, and when he was in his twentieth, and so on, not necessarily will remind him of an ex love, but it will bring into his mind back memories of those years.
