I think you hit the nail on the head. They are 'followers' - like sheep - not 'seekers' or 'thinkers' or 'leaders'. Not when it comes to religion, anyway.
I, too, have a great problem dealing with fundamentalists. I really thought they had nearly died out, yet here they are, using technology which, one would think, because the Bible makes no mention of it, must be the instrument of the Devil in their eyes.
Personally, I believe steadfastly that there was a guy called Chicken-Licken and that the sky nearly did fall, except that he got to tell the king in time. No, it's the literal truth, in the King's name. Don't anyone go telling me that the acorn was anything at all but an acorn! No siree! The people who say that the whole thing was a fable and that the acorn actually represents the Truth that Chicken-Licken (blessed be He) misunderstood are talking through their tight little ringpieces.

What in the world are you talking about girl. I don't know what church you go too, but the ones I've attended over the years believe in Evolution. Gods creation was not instantaneous. Every measurement in the bible is not what it is today. A day was like a million years. I mean, look at Noah, he was 600 years old when God called him to build the ark, we all know that that is impossible. The stories in the Bible are like fables, with a moral to each story. Those who take it completely literally will never understand the true meaning of life. God created the Earth and humanity through the process of evolution. Good grief, don't hammer on religion until you try church.

alien life is totally different from ghosts and I could bet that most who believe in one or the other doesn't believe in the oppisite. And your going to say that Believing in a higher being is more ludicrius then believing that two rocks collided in mid air then suddenly on one of the rocks there is suddenly something that can breathe, then over yrs climbs out of the water that it's been living in and started evolving into us. Seriously sit down and listen to that theory agian. If that were true why are we the smartest ones. Why haven't all species evolved into the same thinking ability if nothing else. Who had the power to keep us evolving to where we are but stopped the ant from becoming bigger and better, for example.

While I don't practice any organized religion myself, I can understand why people choose to believe (religiously so--pun intended) what they believe. It's faith. People, by nature, want to believe that this world is not the only thing they're living for, that there's something beyond that, some other goal to strive for. It's a noble pursuit, though sometimes it can get out of hand, and rather extreme. I admire that people can belive blindly, but I feel they need to know when they're getting duped.

Ahem, just because you think something is wrong doesn't make it wrong.
It looks like to me, based on your other questions, you are trying to deny faith. Why would you want to do that? That's like saying you believe in asking questions on Yahoo! answers but recieving only answers that you agree with.
Accept that God is extraordinary and is capable of things beyond our imagination. Right now we may not be able to understand everything completely clear, but we can believe in what we choose. God is real, and hopefully you will open up more to him, instead of asking people WHY they believe.
It's ok to question, but the pure of heart are the ones who SEE God. Seeing is not believing, believing is something we know exists, its in our hearts, and maybe we're not born with it, but if you find life the way you should, eventually you will find it.
I believe that God created evolution.

The bible is legit. It may not be the exact word of God like he dictated it, but it IS a legit teaching tool. Don't get too carried away. It's what some people are taught from the very moment of birth and they are surrounded by it. You're not going to change them. Can't people believe what they believe?

I think when you start being brainwashed at such an early age, you become followers, not free thinkers or leaders. the right wing scares me as much as any religious fanaticism. They're always right and nobody else is--and they pick and choose their scriptures. Sickening and maddening at the same time

Denial is a big part of it, fear is another, and terror is a big one. Hate really figures in there also...hate, hate, hate. And by the way, if we banned the phrase, "read the bible" for a day, many here would be unable to answer any quesitons. :-)
