A small part of my 5 yr old son's left eyelid has been slightly swollen most of the week but you can hardly tell unless you are close by him. I was just wondering since there are no mosquito bite marks what else it could be. His eye is not affected and doensn't itch or bother him...but the part thats slighly swollen has not changed since Tuesday. There is no oozing from his eye.

Yes my son does have allergies. He is particularly "sneezy" and stuffy of a morning.

My son was just upset over not being able to find his toy cap gun and the expression on his face showed a small pink dot on the eyelid in question! Methinks this was a bite. Thank you sooo much for all your answers. If it changes Im taking him to the Doc.

I'm afraid you'll have to have him aborted. Glad to be of service!

This is a funny thing, I had to see my optometrist yesterday for the same thing. It could be a few different things, but for all of them they will tell you to apply very warm compresses to the closed eyelid for about 15 minutes at a time to soften up the swelling and encourage whatever kind of ickness that is in there (fluid, puss, or any other substance) to "melt" away at least three times a day, and more often if you are so inclined. Of course the wash cloth will not stay warm for a whole 15 minutes so you will want to rise out the cloth with more warm water to reheat it so it will continue to be effective. For me the doctor said it was a ruptured blood vessel that had kinda festered a little and was not preventable, it just happens (not often, but it happens.) His situation Could totally be something different though and I would recommend you call his doctor and talk to an "advice nurse" they are there to advise you on if he should be seen or if there are home remedies to try first before bringing him in.

It is not bothering him or changing, then there may not be much the doc will do besides observe for anything new.

It could be a bite, and it would be swelling more than that if there was a problem, but may take up to two weeks to heal. It is a sensitive area of skin.

(the more HE ignores it, the more it is likely to go away - if we believe there is a problem, we sometimes create the problem. That is why I think going to the doctor can make you feel worse sometimes - state of mind)

Almost definitely a stye. The oily glands of his eyelid have become blocked. Use a warm compress & clean with a gentle soap solution. No trip to the doc necessary.

Probably a sty. Just a small pimple in his eyelid. Try having him lay down with a hot washcloth over his eye for awhile. It may cause it to pop and liquid may suddenly be in his eye. But it doesnt hurt and wont cause any damage. Try the washclothes idea it should do the trick.

Why even take a chance. It could be nothing. It's probably nothing. But would you rather avoid the cost and inconvenience of a doctor visit or run the risk of him losing sight in the eye if it is something. I say better safe than sorry. You don't take chances when it comes to the sensory organs... eyes, ears, mouth, nose, skin.

It is probably just allergies or a sty. Try a warm tea bag on his eye for about 30 minutes or so. It has a soothing and healing quality like no other! My husband has gotten a couple and it works every time!

I agree with the stye... I know this may sound weird but I was once told that you can use a Q-tip and slighty dig in his ear and put some of the ear wax on stop of the stye...Also, try using a hot towel for him to lay over his eye...Only as hot as he can stand it..(Home Remedies)

Does your son have any allergies? Any problems with sinuses? Sinuses can sometimes be cause of swollen eyelids. Anyway, I would go to see a doctor. Could be nothing but you never know. I wouldn't risk it.
