To tell you the truth, you could group together the finest of the christians and discover that they each have different belief systems. In other words, believing or not believing in evolution won't make a dent in one's christianity. It is irrelevant to the more important or greater issues of life.
Even the most fundamental has certain beliefs which are unfounded in the sacred scriptures, many doctrines will only be clear on "that Day."
So yes, definitely, one can be a christian and also believe in evolution, just as well as a pious or religious christian who believes in killing in the name of God.
The same goes for the other religions which also claim disbelief in evolution.

Of course. A Christian is a person who believes that Jesus is the Son of God, and who came to save the world by his death and ressurection, leaving behind the believers on Earth as the body of Christ.
Since evolution plays no role in either affirming or denying that belief, a Christian can believe or not believe in the scientific theory of evolution.

I don't think there is any penalty. A lot of people do think God used the process of evolution to create the world. I suggest you (or they) read up on both sides of the argument - evolution, scientific creationism, intelligent design and then decide. It's nice to have an informed decision and be able to defend your reason for deciding one way or the other.

Absolutely, people who say no do not understand God or evolution. God created a cell that grew over millions of years into the people we are today, that is why you can see how evolution worked. Those who believe the bible meant 24 hours for the days are the same people who hold their bible higher than God and do not understand that God is omnipotent and want to keep making God the size of man, and that is as close to slapping God in the face as I can think of!

Yes, indeed! Something started life on this planet. Science cannot tell you why it started although they can describe how they think it started. The "why" is God.
Once life was started, it evolved along and did it's thing. One day, a proto-human bore a child that was human. Why did an animal become a human? Science cannot tell you why, although they can describe the path it took to get there. The "why" is God.
The entire universe started as a point of energy. That point expanded into the current universe. Science cannot tell you why it expanded, although they can describe what happened (and is still happening). The "why" is God.
It's very easy to be religious and scientific as well. There are very, very few scientists that are athiest, although there are a good proportion of agnostics.

I believe that if a Christian loosens up on their interpretation of the Bible, they could see the process of evolution as the hand of God at work.
But as long as you believe it all had to happen in six days and only a few thousand years ago, it's impossible to merge the two theories.

Of course! If you are a Christian who has a brain! Just because you're a christian, that doesn't mean you have to listen to those hate-mongering lunatics who try to fill your head full of craziness, such as: evolution doesn't exist, sex is evil, gays are sinners, Geoge Bush is brilliant, Jesus loves war, and that Fox News is "fair & balanced"! The crazies have taken over Christianity, stand up against them and take your religion back!
Take it from me, I'm a snake handler!
