Maybe the whole anomaly arises when we assume that 'God's Plan' is there down to the finest detail.
There are many ways of making a carpet. One is to paint on the canvas the exact colours that are to be sewn into that place, the other is to give instructions about setting up the loom and how some threads go forward and some go back in order to make a fabric, perhaps to suggest what colours go well together and what don't and to leave the rest up to the carpet maker.
My feeling is that the 'plan' is more like a set of instructions or sensible rules to follow. Something like a car accident seems like a major thing to us (as it certainly is for the people involved) but in the scheme of things it maybe a minor hiccup. You may object that a number of people's lives will be seriously affected by that accident. For those who are killed, who knows what happens after? Certainly, people have various beliefs and some of those may be close to the truth. For those who survive, again, who can say what might have been if it hadn't happened, might their lives have been 'better', as we see it or 'better' in terms of the 'plan'?
Personally, I choose to see a rather looser structure to fate, one in which our decisions are involved and in which, collectively, we are slowly learning to work with the natural flow rather than against it.

God's ability to know the future does not diminish our free will. It's just a matter of perspective.
Try this:
Imagine you are in a skyscraper looking down at the street corner below. You see two cars speeding towards the same intersection, but from different angles. One is coming from the South going due North, the other is going West from the East. Neither driver can see the other because the building you are in is obscuring their view. Therefore, they continue to speed towards the intersection.
From your point of view, you can see that if at least one vehicle does not slow down, they will collide when they reach the intersection. They continue to speed on. It is now clear to you that there will be an accident. You KNOW an accident is about to take place, even though the drivers are still unaware.
The crash happens, you knew it was coming. Yet your knowledge of what was to come had no effect whatsoever on the free wills of the drivers who collided.

Regarding Picard's answer: My perception is that predestination is like a movie with 2 endings over which you have the choice.
GOD knows that you will question which choice to make, and ultimately, which choice you DO make.
However, since GOD "has a plan and a purpose" for us, if He wants you not to get into that car, ( say, because His plan for you is to save someone's life in 3 months), some event will happen so that you won't.
Hope this helps. It is a difficult concept to wrap our minds around. Have faith and GOD bless.

Leave that up for God to decide, but obviously you wouldn't get in a car with a drunk driver... or be drunk and drive..
Stop questioning life and just live it!
Live like you were dying..
Most of us will never know our time, hey I could choke on the cheezits I'm about to eat, and die. We never know, but the best we can do is make healthy choices (like I shouldn't even be eating the cheezits cuz I'm dieting) lol.

I think that our lives our mapped out. It can either go this way or that way. That's why we're given optons to do this or that, to go here or not to go. So if God has it in your plan for you to get in an accident on tomorrow, but you chose not to get in the car, you chose option B. That doesn't mean you avoided the accident. If it's meant fot you to get in the accident, it will happen. It just didn't happen on that day.
