....when there is proof of both (no proof of either Jesus of God) and the discovery of dinosaur bones. How do Christians explain dinosaurs? I am confused...............

Its easy, they've been indoctrinated to believe these things from birth, and almost nothing, including logic, will tear them from the oppression of their ideas of how the world works.

The older a christian, the harder it will be to change their mind

Let's dispel all this false information.

A theory is that which explains a natural phenomenon. It is backed up by observation, facts, etc. It isn't a guess.

Gravity is a theory (and a fact).

Most scientists agree that evolution (by whatever mechanics) does exist. I've never seen one highly educated teacher in that field say otherwise.

Here's an FAQ for you (and everyone) http://www.talkorigins.org/origins/faqs-evolution.html

It's very informative.

Let's refute a few things

1) "If the rate of expansion one second after the Big Bang had been smaller even by one part in a hundred thousand million million the universe would have recollapsed before it ever reached its present size," says Prof. Stephen Hawking in his book "Brief History of Time."

Please don't misuse quotes to try to prove aything. The earth itself is fickle; if it was but an inch over or any slower, we would not exist. Just because it was "close" doesn't mean it isn't possible.

2) A lack of observation doesn't mean anything.

3) Species have been shown evolving. The moths of England are a prime example (microevolution: see below). However, "major changes" take a long period of time. It hasn't happened in the last 10000 years (which is the extent of our "civilization").

A quote from the talkorigins:
"There is no difference between micro- and macroevolution except that genes between species usually diverge, while genes within species usually combine. The same processes that cause within-species evolution are responsible for above-species evolution, except that the processes that cause speciation include things that cannot happen to lesser groups, such as the evolution of different sexual apparatus (because, by definition, once organisms cannot interbreed, they are different species)."

4) The fossil record does show evolution. Archaeopteryx is a prime example.

5) "Wow, this is a biggie. You say there is no proof of Jesus. Why do we count time by A.D. and B.C.? (Before Christ)."

Please realize that there has been more than one calendar in history. The calendar we use now is the Gregorian calendar (circa 1580s).

Besides, most scientists now use "CE" and "BCE." Common Era and Before Common Era ;).

Besides, if you do some research you'll realize that Jesus was not born at 0 or even 1, but more like 4-6 BC.

Well, there's a few answers, but go to the link http://www.talkorigins.org/origins/faqs-evolution.html for more information (it'll answer almost all your questions ;) ).

I'm a Christian but I like the atheist's answer. Who told you there was proof of evolution and big bang? You need to check your facts. Also, no Christian denies dinosaurs, what does that have to do with anything. You must have got some stories mixed up with each other about what happened a long time ago. Furthermore, there is LOTS of historical proof of Jesus, even from people who don't believe He was God. THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK.

I'm a Christian and here's how I look at your questions. Let's start with the Big Bang. First, I'm an ammatuer astronomer and really enjoy it. So, the Big Bang, here we go.

Genesis 1:1-4 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.................................Genesis 1:16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.

So when god said "Let there be light", did he just go over to the wall and flip the switch? I think that in order for light to cover the entire heavens, there WAS a BIG BANG and that was the beginning of light as we know it. As for your question, I don't deny the Big Bang.

Now, we go forth into evolution. I don't deny evolution either. Let's start with the book of Genesis again.

Genesis 1:24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.

Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. I have no problem with that either. Alright, there's your first part of evolution. First all of the creatures, and then man. Now remember, a day for man is only a nanosecond of a nonosecond to God. This is in terms of a day in the life of God.

You see, MAN has formulated these questions due to his lack of faith in something unseen or something that never even occured to man. I hope this helps you. This is MY opinion. This doesn't neccessarily relfect the interpretations of those who have spent their lives studying the Bible or those that derive their teachings of it. Think of it like this, I say "I love chicken fried steak!", while someone else may say "I can't stand chicken fried steak, but I love a grilled sirloin!" Yet someone else may say, "I don't really like steak all that much", and yet another may say "I don't eat beef, it's against my religion." It's kind of like the saying "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." So that's my take on your questions and I hope that it helps you to more clearly see that it doesn't neccessarily mean that everyone else is right, because YOU are entitled to your own opinion as well.

Peace

"Christians" don't deny evolution or the Big Bang. Rather "some Christians" do - generally only the evangelicals, Southern Baptists, Pentecostals, and perhaps some Methodists deny these scientific theories.

The Catholic Church recognized the Big Bang as predicted by the work of Hubble and Einstein in the nineteen fifties, about ten years before the theory fully caught on with mainstream scientists. Pope John Paul II characterized evolution as "more than theory" in an address to the French Academy of Sciences in the eighties.

In the 4th century, St. Ambrose recognized and taught regarding the allegorical nature of the old testament mythologies - the Genesis tales as parable rather than as Audubon field guide.

Christians believe in dinosaurs, just not evolution. Evolution and the Bible don't mix. God created the heavens and the earth and all that is in them, Science tries to explain that away with a theory. The Big Bang makes no sense as when something explodes it loses power and force, it doesn't start creating things.

There are over 10 000 Jewish, Roman and Christian documents recording the existence of Jesus. No historian would deny his existence.

The theory of evolution has yet to be proved, that's why it's still called a theory.

I don't disagree with the big bang theory at all, when God said 'Let there be light' I'm sure there was quite a big bang.

But I don't believe that the 6 day creation should be taken literally, God, it seems, likes to take His time with things like that.

Wow, this is a biggie. You say there is no proof of Jesus. Why do we count time by A.D. and B.C.? (Before Christ). There is ample evidence that Jesus Christ did indeed exist. The question is, was He the Son of God? I personally believe that He is. That is a choice you will have to make for yourself. The fact that you asked the question tells me you have doubts. As for Creationism vs evolution, I have no problem believing both. Any educated person cannot deny that evolution is real. However, the Bible was written in ancient times for people who did not even know that the earth is round. When it says the world was created in 7 days, is it talking about 24 hour days, or God days? God is infinite. What is a day to Him? I think He had to dumb it down a little for us humans. Also, remember, Jesus often spoke in parables (stories to illustrate a point). I don't know if this helps, I just know that, to me, Jesus and God are VERY real and very much a part of my life. He comforts and sustains me and I would have killed myself long ago if not for Him. God bless you and keep you and I will remember you in my prayers.

What proof of evolution is there? there is no mising link that has been found and confirmed. Humans have been keeping records for over a thousand years and throughout that no one documented a species evolving in any way.
There is tons of evidence that Jesus existed the main hang up there is if he was God. But he claimed to be and committed mant miracles so he was either God or a very amazing crazy person who has had more impact on this world then any other being.Dinosaurs were just a species that went extinct, it happens tigers are on te verge of extinction right now.

No one saw the big bang or the giant leaps of evolution, therefore since we didn't see it it didn't happen(Just like can't see God so he's not real argument). The bible and Dinosaurs is no problem, you got that mixed up. Some religions may have a problem with that, but the bible doesn't(a creative day wasn't 24 hrs, the Hebrew word carries thought of time period, age etc).
Lets just all agree, that if you can't see it, or didn't see it ,it never happened. Therefore both ideas are out the window.

Like Darwin said, I too, do not believe in any gods, and yet I refuse to accept the evolution and big bang theories alltogether. The only fact that the big bang theory is based upon is Erwin Hubble's discovery that further objects in space move faster than closer objects do. That, he concluded, meant that everything came from a starting point, and the further out it reaches, the more speed it picks up. And evolution, in a few ways is feasible, but in many ways it is not. Why do we still have an appendix, after centuries of evolution? Why cannot we utilize one hundred percent of our brain? It is a battle between those who think for themselves, and those who believe what someone wrote in a novel.
