I've had shingles before, which affected my ear & nose - it hurt like holy hell & had to have an anti-viral to help clear it up. It's not a fatal condition. It is caused by the same virus which causes chicken pox & can erupt at an time, as the virus never completely leaves the body (like a herpes cold sore). If the blisters break open, avoid children & pregnant women because at that time the chicken pox virus are contagious.

I had Shingles for the first time a few weeks ago. I am normally in good health and haven't had any other health challenges before, so it came as a surprise.
Shingles is probably the most painful thing I have ever encountered. I went to the doctor, and he gave me some prescription drugs to take that was suposed to help, but didn't.
My wife found the Fast Shingles Cure ebook online and bought it for me, I am very lucky to have such a wonderful woman in my life. We followed the book, did what it said, and it delivered what it promised. Finally my Shingles rash is over... I feel truly blessed and thankful.

yup, not sure if you'd like to take the risk. But shingles is a form of herpes or something, just get it cured and live in peace. It's not fun having it. My colleague was paralised with the pain it gave her and had to take a week off work.

There are two types of herpes simplex virus: HSV-1 and HSV-2. Both virus types can cause sores around the mouth (herpes labialis) and on the genitals (genital herpes). Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV).
Cold sores sometimes called fever blisters, are groups of small blisters on the lip and around the mouth. The skin around the blisters is often red, swollen, and sore. The blisters may break open, leak a clear fluid, and then scab over after a few days. They usually heal in several days to 2 weeks.
The herpes simplex virus usually enters the body through a break in the skin around or inside the mouth. It is usually spread when a person touches a cold sore or touches infected fluid—such as from sharing eating utensils or razors, kissing an infected person, or touching that person's saliva. A parent who has a cold sore often spreads the infection to his or her child in this way. Cold sores can also be spread to other areas of the body.

what?!? Shingles is a rash that is developed on a person who has had Chicken Pox, and it is kind of chicken pox coming back. You cant really treat chicken pox (or shingles) with medicine, so I would say dont worry.....take him to a doctor if he gets a high fever or severe rash.
Good luck!

Answer #1 is right. It's beyond painful because it effects the nerve endings as well as the skin. It won't kill you, but you wish you were dead from the pain. They have medication to help get rid of it faster. Tell him to get to the doctor!
