A psychiatrist will prescribe any number of medications. If one suites you it will indeed help. A psychologist on the other hand will allow you to talk and give you a Dr. Phil kind of hour and you do sometimes feel better if your issues are emotional and not chemical. I love psychiatric drugs, espesially prozac, you feel on top of the world...your friends think you've lost your mind, but you dont. Best wishes

Yes, but it didn't help. My parents made me go, and I didn't feel like I could open up to the person. My father would force me to tell him everything I told the psychiatrist, so it pretty much defeated the purpose of going.

Yes. Seeing a psychiatrist saved my life, literally.

it helped more than you will ever know unless you go. You need to make sure you feel comfortable with your psychiatrist and tell them EVERYTHING. They can't help you figure things out if the don't know what is going on with you. I do regret not telling him a secret that still haunts me. Eight years later, I still have dreams about this on a regular basis. I wish I had let him help me figure this out since he did wonders for me in other areas of my life.

No, I haven't but it's crossed my mind. However, I have worked in a clinical setting with psychiatrists and attended hospital rounds with them.
If you're a college student and you have counselors (not advisors) at your school you should try to utilize their services and consider asking them about seeing a psychiatrist if necessary.

I have never gone to a psychiatrist. I like to talk to my neighbor and that seems to work the best and it's free.

Yes, I've been and yes, the medication helped. The psychologist that I saw, did not help, though, since "talk therapy" is not for me.

I did when I was going through my divorce. It really helped me to get over the guilt, and to reflect on past relationships so I wouldn't make the same mistakes again.
