Specifically - brand, model, specifcations - what kind of zoom? What kind of pixels? Maybe a link to the kind of camera you use?

Also - what software do you use for your photots - and for your montages???

Kodak easyshare? haha!!
If you're at all serious about this, you'll want an SLR. The cheapest you can get away with is a Canon 350D (a.k.a. Rebel XT) or a Nikon D50. Then you'll want a normal zoom for 90% of the shots and a telezoom for some candids. You'll want a decent flash. And you'll want to double up on all of the above. You MUST build in redundancy in case any item malfunctions. Then add plenty of memory cards, perhaps an external storage device (expect to take anywhere from 500 to 1500 pictures.) Add a ton of batteries, perhaps a fast prime, perhaps a tripod for the formals, some carrying cases and you're set. On the software side, Photoshop and perhaps some plugins. You could add CaptureOne for bulk processing (or Nikon Capture if you go with Nikon).
Expect to pay $3000 for a bargain basement setup and $7000 for anything decent. If your primary camera is a Nikon D200 with a 17-55mm f/2.8 Nikon zoom and a fast 2GB card, that's $3000 right there.
