I've heard americans say "my bad" a lot and I'm just wondering if it stands for something? What does it mean!?

Originally, it was a question: Am I bad? It was pronounced "M I bad?" by some people. Then it was shortened to "My bad" by people who didn't understand that it was a question. Now it means "It was my fault."

It means, "sorry, that was my mistake." I believe it originated with football players taking credit for botching a play.

taking blame or fault for something that you didn't mean to happen. Like you bump into somebody......my bad.

It means you made a mistake. My son used to say "my back" cause he didn't know what it meant.

It is not proper English to say "my bad." It is ebonics (***** jive). It means "my mistake." Unfortunately lower class whites have begun to say it also.
