For those who answered "free will".
How is there free will if God has a plan?!? He knows the results of your life because He's omniscient, right? So, its already been decided whether or not you're going to drink and drive tonight, by God. Because He knows everything prior to it happening, so, where's the choice? Or are you saying He doesn't know what you will choose? Then He is not omniscient, He is not all powerful, He does...not...know, therefore, He is NOT the God you've believed in!

Romans 14 says "it will not be an easy path laid before you".
Proving my point that if christians that believe God has a path for them, there is NO free will.

I can't believe some of you are still saying "free will"! Are you just trying to convince yourself?

"D.J." We're not talking about people. We're talking about "God". Are you admitting that He does not have a plan???

Okay, if God knows what choices we are going to make BEFORE we make them, its impossible to go against what He already knows! Where are you getting free will??

You've just pointed out the biggest contradiction in a belief in god. Religious people answer this (it isn't really an answer) by usually saying, "we can't understand god's will" or some such response. But the truth is, it's contradictory and illogical. Same thing for prayer -- if god's got a plan and it's already all laid out, why bother to pray to him for anything, since he's apparently already decided if you'll get it or not?
And, apparently, if god has a plan, then me not believing in him is all part of his plan, and I'm just fulfilling his wishes by not believing in him -- so christians, stop trying to convert me!

To answer your question, no, an omniscient god doesn't allow any choice at all.
I find it both sad and funny that many of the answers you have received either contradict themselves, which is what you have pointed out in the first place, or, completely ignore the question.
In the following argument (which is similar to yours), the author does not assign god a gender. Because of this, god is referred to as "it", instead of "he" or "she".
"The problem here is that God knows everything that has happened and everything that will happen. Its knowledge cannot be wrong. There is not a single event that it has not foresaw. Given that it created the Universe the way it did, do we have free will? Consider that when God made the Universe it could see every possible result of what it was doing. Which means: it could not create something without knowing what the results would be, and without knowing how it would be affected (and effect) the things around it.
Let's say that Fred has a choice that will save his life, to accept God or not to accept God and the final choice is to be made tomorrow. God knows already what choice he will make - God cannot be wrong therefore Fred cannot choose otherwise to what God has predicted. When God created the chain of events that made Fred it also knew that it was making Fred's choice for him, and knew how the various circumstances and character would make him choose either right or wrong. Fred would go forth and make that very decision that God knew he would make, and by virtue that God knowingly set up all the factors that affected his decision, it was not up to Fred but to God to decide how Fred would fare.
This argument does not imply that God does not exist. It leaves us with three results, two of which have to be wrong.
1. God created everything with full knowledge and we have no free will to change it
2. God does not have full knowledge
3. God did not make the Universe or there is no God"

This is what I believe:
I think God does know the ultimate out come of all out decisions. He is omniscient. But, he doesn't influence us, or give us any fore knowledge as to what those outcomes will be. If you choose to drink and drive that is just as much your fault if you knew before hand and did it, as it is if you had no idea you were going to get in an accident.
There is free will because God does not stop us from doing evil, we choose to do it. Just because he knows we will, doesn't make him wrong.
Another way of looking at it is this.
If God us all powerful then he has the power to limit his own power. (might sound kinda confusing). So if he is all powerful He can set up a creation that will do things that He doesn't know the outcome of (like us). So maybe he knows the ultimate end, but does not pry into the every day decisions that we will make.

The problem with what you are saying is that you are saying that just because God knows what the outcome is, means that it is being swayed by that. Just because your mother knows that you sneak an extra Popsicle out every time you go to the fridge does not mean she is omniscient. Your free will means you will decide, because God knows it ahead of time does not mean that you do not have free will, you are asking two separate questions. God has a plan for us, by giving us certain talents and abilities to use. Whether we use them or not is our free will. Again, just because you know the outcome does not mean you made the outcome.

Regardless of whether or not God is the God people believe in, you're answer is RIDICULOUS! A lot of people know certain things before they happen. That does not even remotely imply that they in someway planned it. If you get knowledge of something before it happens, you can't help the fact that you already know it but you don't have anything to do with it happening. If you want to shoot something down, think about it for a half a second first. There are plenty of people on both sides of the fence that know your analysis is WHACK.

God is in all of time all at once...omnipresent.
He has created mankind with volition, or the will to make choices. It is His will that we have a will, otherwise we would be nothing but pre-programmed and not be able to worship God out of love, which is what He desires.
Your question was, "God allows you to choose Satan?" And the answer is YES, most emphatically.
It is God's desire that all change their mind and believe Him. That's his desire. However, it is also His desire that all who spend eternity with Him will be there because they wanted to. He blesses these by giving them eternal life and incorruptibility. No one will be with Him that rejected Him.
Those who reject Him will die as a just consequence. Therefore, I am not interested in converting scoffers, mockers, and those who have made up their mind to hate God, Jesus Christ, and those who identify with both the Father and the Son. I wipe the dust of my feet off and move on to those who may have a soft heart for God and may change their mind.

People may wonder why, if God exists, He doesn’t wave a magic wand and fix things, making or at least influencing everyone so that they do exactly what they ‘should’ do. But God never takes away anyone’s freedom of choice. God’s wisdom is to recognize and respect each soul’s individual identity, freedom and inherent goodness. God shares knowledge – a profound understanding of the dualities and dilemmas of love and hatred, happiness and sorrow, victory and defeat, etc. – but He does not make our choices for us. The soul is free to choose ‘to be or not to be’, ‘to love or not to love’. God’s love strengthens the soul’s will to free itself from the distresses caused by vices such as selfish desire, anger, fear, ego and attachment. God’s power helps the soul to recognize its highest potential and to aim for perfection by practising the art of simple living and high thinking. Such practice by a significant number of souls eventually brings about positive change in the whole of humanity.
When you learn to tune your mind in meditation to the mind of God, then whatever the situation, you always have a source of help and strength to draw upon – an infinite reservoir of power and virtues that is only a thought away

God has a plan for every human, but the human takes free will and makes the choice. Adam made the free choice to eat of the fruit. Satan didnt twist his arm he chose freely of it. God told him not to and he did anyways. People of this earth are doing the same thing the Bible tells us Gods plan. We freely chose to go against the truth, I would rather chose to serve instead of forced to serve idols for human blood sacrifices trying to catch up to Jesus blood that washes all sin away.

WOW, you think like me. God IS all powerful. All Knowing.
Therefore, HE already knows who is going to Heaven.
Satan?
A myth created by the Catholics. Is Satan mentioned in the old Testament?
Only as th serpent. And even that may be a myth.
God is the "author" of our lives. He knows the beginning of each of us. and he knows the end of each of us. There is nothing we can do to change that.
We cannot be more powerful than God.
Therefore, we cannot change His will.

Don't think of life as a one way street. God gives us many options, some not even created by Him. But he always knows how to save us and put us back on the right track if we let Him. You can have fate and destiny, with more than a hundred ways to get there.
