"Cherchez la femme." is literally "Look for the woman." It is originally spoken by a detective in a novel by Alexandre Dumas fils. It is meant to mean that behind ever crime is a woman, if not as instigator then as the inspiration, even if it is just some guy who wants a lot of money to impress the woman. If you find the woman, you find the criminal.

"Mon frere" is literally "my brother." It is often used as a term of endearment.

They are french terms, previous answers to this question are correct. (Search for/look for/find the woman; My brother.)

To add to the history of the phrase, a popular television series (La Femme Nikita) used "Cherchez la femme - Dans la nuit" as the only words in their opening title title song. (the series ran from 1997-2001 on USA network; currently reruns on Showcase.)

"Cherchez la femme" literally means "look for the woman", but in slang means you're looking to hook up (if you're a guy).
"Mon frere" is "my brother", also used to mean "buddy" or "pal".

One means "look for women" (or as they said in an old Doonesbury cartoon - "keep your eye peeled for broads". Mon Frere means "My brother or my friend".
