I TOTALLY agree that the illegal immigrants should learn English and become legal. Our ancestors which came here over 200 years ago, wanting to become legal and assimilate to our culture. They were proud to be American and payed their taxes, knowing that was their price for a better life. We shouldn't have to assimilate to other peoples culture if they want to come over here. i have no problem with people wanting to come over here legally. America is a melting pot that is a mixture of many cultures. I also, have no problem with them flying their flag. I am proud of my heritage and, would have an Italian flag in my house. That's not saying that I am not proud to be American it is that i am also proud of where I came from.

For those of you who don't know and understand, you are all slowly being coerced into learning Spanish, unless something is done soon, which I know it won't be. Even if we shipped every illegal home and sealed our borders right now, it will only delay this. The Demographic trends show the Hispanic Community (The legally here Hispanic community) is growing at a much faster rate than any other ethnic group. At some point in time, they are going to be the majority. It will not take laws to make changes, you already see several cable channels offering Hispanic programs. As the Hispanic population grows, the market will respond accordingly, and more and more cable stations, radio stations, even movies, plays, books, newspapers, etc, will be in Spanish unless we make English the official language of the United States and do it soon. It is not likely to be seen in my lifetime, not to the extent described anyway, but I have concern for future generations. I do not want to see the Constitution or the Declaration of Independance translated into another language be it Spanish, French German, etc. I am afraid something would be lost in the translation. Be aware though, this is the direction the country is headed right now.

English has only recently come into being a national language. Our forefathers had no idea what invasion would take place. Everyone who had come to this melting pot actually, well, melted into the pot. That's the purpose of assimilation. We all go in as something different, but yet we come out the same, as Americans. In large part it is the way Mexico stresses "la patria." They don't do crap for their people. They don't even care if they die in the desert. They come here and get medical care, education, jobs. They get a much better life than they had in Mexico, do they like Americans or America? No. Their loyalty is still to Mexico, and Mexico likes it that way because they continue to send their family money in Mexico, which helps keep the Mexican economy afloat.
It doesn't work without the continued loyalty to Mexico. You really can't blame their kids too much for their misplaced loyalty, this is what they are taught by their parents. Alot of those kids have never even been to Mexico, and yet they firmly believe that Mexico is still their country and it is the greatest country in the world.

I AM MEXICAN, living in Mexico, and concerned about my country expulsing so many people, because there are not enougth oportunities for them in this great land.
Why do mexicans come to our country and expect us to learn their language? Did they not come to a country where our national language is english?
I believe in this point you are rigth, i have said that this should be a must, in the moment they get ther, to learn the languaje. Not only because it is the national languaje, but because that would make them closer to better work oportunities, and to improve their lifestyle, wich was in the first place the motivation for them to leave Mexico.
How come mexicans come to the united states and hang their flag everywhere as if they were proud of their country?
I believe that can be as valid, as some of your american companies, wich come here to stablish in Mexico, and have their own flag, that's because you migth be to some country because of the work, and the oportunities, but you can conserve the proud of your own, origin country. And i can tell you that despite our bad economical situation, there are plenty of things to be proud of in Mexico.
if that were true why did they come here to begin with if their country is so great?
Because of the lack of oportunities in my country.

Wow. I've travelled around much of the world, but not until this message board did I realize how many Americans truly have hate in their hearts. It's like the whole country is one evil empire of supremacists.
I'll bet a lot of Americans are proud of their ethnic heritage - Italians, Irish, Polish, blacks. Furthermore, Americans seem to have the least faculty with foreign languages. Everywhere I travel in mainland Europe I hear Americans speaking English, like they expect people to know the language.
There's no question -- many Americans view Mexico the way Europeans viewed Africa; a hundred years ago. And, frankly, the literature and films and intellectual production of Mexico does in fact rival Joey, or Nacho Libre whatever pabulum is fed to you people nightly.

You are SO right!!!! Most of them seem to ONLY want to come here,to USE the U.S. for whatever they can GET from us!!!They do NOT want to learn OUR language, which is ENGLISH!! And i feel the same way, about them marching in our streets, and carrying the mexican flag!!!! They may do it because they are proud of their country, but if they like it there SO MUCH,then maybe they should be LIVING there!!!! THIS is the UNITED STATES of AMERICA,and we fly the STARS and STRIPES in THIS country!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are 100% right.
They are constantly talking about how proud they are of their culture, but if so why do they come here? My concern is that if the US doesn't make them become like us...we will become like them: stricken with poverty and crime, no organization, no responsibility...what a joke. I don't think they have any desire to be "AMERICANS" they just want to be Mexicans but have all of the benefits that Americans have. Problem is, we work for these benefits. America is not a place for freeloaders. Go home.
Heck, every time I go there on vacation I still learn how to speak their language. Its common courtesy...ESPECIALLY if you live there!

I totally agree. It really pisses me off that these ppl come in illegally and then demand all of these things and then don't pay taxes and expect us to sing in spanish. My dad is an immigrant and came to this country legally. He went through the whole process legally and has to pay taxes and is expected to speak the language (which he does). It is not fair that ppl can sneak in and just demand. It really sux!
