what materials do you need to sew leather?

heavy twine or leather laces. a large needle and an awl. never done it but i think that would be a good start. you also might think about pressure gloves quilters use them to keep arthritis from setting in which is a big problem if you sew leather by hand. if you use a machine just make sure it will handle leather before you buy it broken needles suck
