No No No do not use mouthwash with a high alcohol content. All you will do is make yourself miserable with the burning, and the alcohol can actually irritate the already tender tissue. You have the sores from the new denture rubbing the tender gum tissue in your mouth. This will eventually go away as you get use to wearing it. Your best bet is to rinse with warm salt water and take Tylenol or Advil to relieve some of the pain. You can also get orajel or anbisol to temp. relieve the pain, but these products do not last for long as they are washed away with your saliva. Drink something very cold, like a milkshake or eat ice cream this can help numb some of the pain associated with your dentures rubbing. Anytime you put a new foreign object in your mouth you will be sore for a few days as your body adjusts to the new denture. Keep swishing with warm salt water and taking Tylenol. Avoid anything spicy or acidic as this will just make things worse. Gently brush your gums with a soft toothbrush as the brushing motion massages your tissue and encourages blood flow and circulation to the area. Don't stop wearing your dentures, you need to get use to them, but def. give your mouth a break during the day when you are home and not in public. The more you wear them the quicker your body will adjust to them. If they are still bothering you after a week for two see your dentist as they may need to be adjusted.

Above all else use mouthwash and hydrogen peroxide. I get canker sores all the time and found that mouthwash helps kill all the bacteria that builds up on the sore. Use wax to cover the area on the denture that is causing these sores. The mouthwash does no good if you keep letting the sore area get irritated

btw
Don't listen to the people who tell you not to use mouthwash. They'd probably tell you to rinse with warm salt water and take Tylenol or Advil to relieve some of the pain. The people who say this obviously don't know how much pain your going through. Mouthwash will sting a little, but it's much more effective than anbisol at killing the infection and you can use it continuously. I had this friend who spent hours sucking on anbisol only to be suffering for hours.
