Our usual attire is black evening dress. Is head covering required outside the cathedrals?

If your choir has a uniform, that would be appropriate, plus women should wear some type of head covering. Perhaps you could get uniform head coverings...such as light wt. vales or hats. If no uniforms wear Conservative clothing, comfortable , light wt. fabric. Cover arms

Black evening dress will probably be fine. The general rule is always cover your shoulders and no skirts above the knee. Needless to say don't have any slogans or writing on your clothing which are inappropriate. Don't think you need to cover your head unless you are having a Papal audience

Long sleeves, high neck line, (at least) knee length skirt, pantyhose or tights, closed shoes (no sandals).

If the choir has a uniform that should be OK as well.

For more information feel free to contact the Holy See directly.

They have a strict clothes code.

Do NOT wear tank tops, sleevles shirts, shorts above the knee or mini skirts. They will ask you to cover your self and turn you away at the door,

The choir uniform will be perfect.

You will not be required to cover your head unless you have an audience with the Pope. Then is is required.
