So - if there is a fire explosion - how come his body wasn't all charred when they found it? What did he die from - shrapnel pounding into him?

The concussion. The bomb was likely an bunker-busting type of ordinance designed to penetrate and destroy a structure. The concussion would cause your organs (mostly water) to shudder violently and become severely damaged.

this is a very interesting compound question and i am certain one that will be investigated-i feel on a personal note that this was a blessing i dont mean to seem inhuman but this is showing the world of those who have no heart that things are changing and out of this i pray that we will finally receive a change-there were [2] 500 pound bombs dropped which ultimately ridded 8 in total--it is possible that it was charred and that they did only what they could to make his face semi-presentable--if you look at the pictures you can see in face evidence of the charring--there was blueing under the make-up and you can also see the horrific swellings in his facial features--please forgive me though i had only seen a couple of the pictures on the tele-so i can only answer this based on what i had seen-his death most likely could have been contributed to internal injuries related to the crushing and what had followed--i sincerely hope this can give you some of the answers to your question-i would suggest that you follow the news articles as they become more available and hopefully that may be able to help you---good luck

A great deal of bomb damage is caused by the shock wave. I'm sure you've seen footage of atomic bombs being exploded and knocking buildings down that are out of the fireball radius. This is the same situation only on a much smaller scale.

Terrorist Zarqawi's death leaves the world a better place

GUNSHOTS rang out across Iraq on Wednesday evening, for once not in anger but in jubilation. At 12.15am (AEST) Thursday, or 6.15pm Wednesday in Iraq, two planes each dropped a 500-pound bomb on a safe house northeast of Baghdad where the Jordanian-born Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, leader of al-Qaida in Iraq, was hiding out with several aides.Al-Zarqawi lived briefly after attack.

WHO? most people who die from bombing look fine, but their insides are torn and bruised due to the concussion caused by the explosion. Its like getting hit all over at once by something really hard

Concussion from the blast. It happens often in Israel when a suicide bomber blows up a bus. Just the tremendous impact of all of that air blasting outward can scramble your insides.

Or maybe something heavy fell on him. Sometimes the percussion of the exploding bomb can be so strong that it causes death.

he was alive after the bombing. they aren't sure if it was from the bombing or if he was shot by us troops afterwards. they're pretty sure he was severely injured by the bombing and died as a result. he was probably in the vicinity of the bombed area and was killed by debris.
