It is a sad but true. On the eve of his crucifixion, Jesus was denied by his OWN people. He said it would happen, and it did. He said it would continue to happen and it does. When people say the Bible is a book of lies, they forget that part. It is very true fact of life that people in all walks of life deny Christ and persecute those that do follow . The good news is that he loves them anyway.

Do you remember the Columbine School Shooting? One of the atheist gunmen asked a terrified group of teens in a crowded School Library Who there had been saved by Jesus. One girl, Out of hundreds stood up and confessed her faith. She was shot down instantly in cold blood.

All we can do is pray for their salvation and Gods peace.

I agree with what Bill B says, 1st Cor is right. Also, the world sees Christians fight, hate, curse, be bigoted, and mean. I believe that a Christian witness should be the day to day life that we lead. They will know us by our love. That has to be there before anything else. Also we are called to walk in peace. So many Christians are in turmoil that Jesus just doesn't show up. When someone lost sees all the fruits of the Spirit,in us, then the Holy Spirit will show up and you can have an ANOINTED conversation about the Lord. Just talking isn't enough. Living it is the answer. Be blessed in Christ.

I have a theory... I believe that its often seen as, for lack of better words ... to preachy. Often they come on a little strong. There are subtle ways to get all of our points across without lashing out at each other.

I have read many forums on topics that are not pleasing to Christians and often the "answers" they give are of no help to the person, and are completely off topic. This is especially true when dealing with sexual things. Someone may ask a certain question and the answer that they get from some people may be "You are going to burn in hell for what you are doing". Unless the question they asked was "Am I going to burn in hell for..." then the "answer" was completely uncalled for, and the answerer should have just skipped that question as it was of no benefit to the person who was asking the question.

This goes the same for those that go into the religion sections and say stupid stuff to the believers like "bible thumpers" and what not. Its just plain stupidity on most peoples part.

If everyone lived with the theory of "due onto others as you would have them due onto you" then the world would be a much better place. But I am afraid this is just not going to happen, and therefore we have to deal with those that are annoying to us, and just hope that they change or some day learn the errors of their ways.

If you don’t have something nice to say.. then don’t say anything at all is the motto I go by. I often see stupid COMMENTS in the answer sections and I tend to just ignore them and go on. The people who say the stupid comments are trying to get a rise out of everyone, and ignoring them is best.

Just my thoughts.

EDIT: I really enjoyed reading GaurdianLegend01's answer above. That was very interesting. Thank you! He has my vote for the best answer. After reading what he wrote, I really believe that is one of the very major problems.

Quite simply we try too hard in most cases. For ages we have gone out of our way to make everyone else feel uncomfortable about who they are. Telling someone that their religion or lack thereof is wrong, thats a dirrect attack on the core of a person. After doing this for ages, people have come to distrust Christians, even hate us.

Of course there is the whole, maybe you aren't bashing people down. But to them its just another Christian that reminds them of the time when that one guy said that they were going to hell and only Jesus could save them and that they were trash for not following them. Sometimes just wearing a cross is enough to get someone else angry about it for who knows what reason. For ages its been a terrible cycle that has both Christians and everyone else fighting about it all.

It shouldn't be like that of course, but it would take a long time to fix it. The biggest most important thing to do, is to respect everyone about you. They are all entitled to their opinions, no matter what the opinion is. If their mind is made up, don't push anything at all, it only makes matters worse. Just live your life in a good Christian manner, minus the whole trying to get people to convert thing. The irony of it all is that when you stop trying to convert people, you'll eventually find someone who is seeking to find out. Let them come to you, not the other way around. It truely would make everyone's life a little better.

As a Christian, this is how I handle it all. I don't go around telling anyone that they are sinful, going to hell, wrong, or anything like that. I believe that a lot of people (myself included, trust me I know I'm off a lot) suffer from a closed mind, or just ignorence. Hopefully one day we can lessen those, but till then, just live your life good and watch for those that are seeking.

because christianity is full of contradictions, illogical reasoning, completely wrong assumptions, and is all based on a not-very-well documented myth that gets used by people today seeking power to control people and get money.

I understand the bible tells you to "witness" to others. But if you can't have a reasonable debate about all of the above problems with what you're witnessing to, then don't bother us. If you want to have a rational discussion of religious ideas, I'm all for it. But answering, "it's god's will and we can't understand it" to every difficult question is not rational.

Because evil fights against the spirit of light that Christians have. They are afraid and want to tear it down. But if you witness to 100 and save only one soul, the fight is worth it. The fight of true love.

Wouldn't you tear someone down with all that you are who was telling you something you were in total denial about and did not want to hear? An example: the closest person you know has been killed in a car wreck and a police man comes to your door and tells. Are you instantly going to say, Ok, thank you sir. No, you are going to say No, my closest person I love, No, you don't know what you're talking about. You may even close the door on the person, but he's not going to leave. He going to stand there and/or let himself in. He's going to hug you, at least in my area they still have a lot of compassion, and he's going to walk you through the steps of what has happened and offer to take you where you need to go to identify the remains so that you no longer have to be in denial. I hope this analogy has helped you understand the persecution we so often feel and why we take it so personally. It's not really us that has done wrong, but given its perspective, we introduced to someone that a way of life they might be living is death and they don't want to hear it and we have to be patient in the power of the Holy spirit and show them the remains for identification so that they can not deny that death. It's not easy being a Christian, not of the religion, but of the practicing relationship and faith in Jesus Christ. But like Paul we keep going lest our joy be completed in our death.

What you perceive as "tearing them down", they perceive as "witnessing" to YOU.

My witness of the power of reason is first hand. Your "witness" of your beliefs is nothing more than you repeating ancient myths someone else told you. In any other context you would consider that the spreading of a rumor, rather than "witnessing".

Non Christians are afraid of any belief that may alter their behavior. They will defend that by tearing down the act of witnessing.

2006-06-09 16:21:08 · answer #9 · answered by always2sides 2 · 0 1

Because Christians try with everything THEY have to tear down the non Christian's belief system... and REPLACE it with THEIRS

simple enough?
