I have Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 on my laptop.
I have a rather strange problem recently. The widows I open, no matter what (My Computer, IE, or any application window), do not show up on my taskbar and I have to use Alt+Tab to switch between windows, which is very irritating. I have tried to solve this but without success. Anybody knows why?
I'm an advanced user of computers and problem-solved in companies for years, so do not dummy-questions answer me.

After a little bit of digging, I found this, http://www.propellerhead.tv/2005/11/minimized_progr.html you may have installed a program that changed the registry settings so first you can try a restore point before this started happening. If that doesn't work you can try running the script located on the same page that will attempt to correct the setting. There is no option to fix this anywhere within Windows besides correcting whatever happened to the registry.

I had this problem last year. I can't remember EXACTLY but mayve this will steer you.
GOogle or yahoo search "my taskbar disappears" and then down load what is called a registry batch editor where (its a bug in XP) it will refix the registry.
You should get PLENTY of hits with those keywords- then it will pop back up.
BEFORE you do this, hit ctl and esc at the same time, it should bring up your "start", then go to settings -taskbar to verify that its not in hidden mode(I'm 99.99% sure its not because you already expalined enough).
It boils down to a bug int he xp that happens after you download or install a specific program.
Good luck.

hm...that's quite strange. Unless there is some sort of setting for Tablet PC that makes everything hide in the taskbar, I don't really know what could be the problem..sorry.

Ummm it isn't RAM memory, but it is more likely than not a virus, try booting in safe mode, and running a system restore to a time before that crap happened. On the off chance that it isn't a virus, i don't know of anything that could help, because aside from a virus, it is nothing i have encountered before.

Here is a link to a script (see item # 240 in the left column) that repairs the Taskbar when minimized programs don't show. Perhaps this will correct it. http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

It is possible that you stretched the quick launch toolbar to fill the entire area.
Also, right click the taskbar and see what is check for Toolbars.
