Yes!
I think you can teach a cat to sit. Here are the instructions:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You Can Teach Your Cat To Sit In 10 Minutes!
You can teach your cat to sit in less than 10 minutes. Of course, you’ll have to repeat the routine for your kitty to remember it. Repetition and consistency are the hallmarks of all good training.
Place your cat on an elevated surface, such as a table. It may assist you if the cat’s back is to a wall. Allow kitty to get a good whiff of your bribe. When the cat shows interest, slowly raise the morsel (you may place the goodie in a teaspoon or between your fingers) along an invisible line from the cat’s nose to a point between its ears. Don’t raise the treat too quickly or too high over the cat’s ears. Say the cat’s name, the command “sit,” and then click the clicker while presenting the reward when kitty does what you want. Now, praise your smart cat, and pet her.
If the cat isn’t following the treat, either your kitty isn’t hungry, you’re waving the treat too high above the cat or that goodie doesn’t smell good enough.
Repeat these training sessions often enough and eventually your cat will sit at your feet whenever he or she is in the mood for a treat. Don’t overdo compliance, or you’ll have a cat who is training you. Ask friends and relatives to command your cat to “sit” for a treat. Soon, Kitty will be more outgoing, and more interested in “sitting” for your guest, hoping for the possibility.

you may teach cats purely such as you may teach canine; with treats. so a good distance as i understand you may teach a cat any trick this is bodily a possibility, all you will desire to do is wait and notice. human beings think of that is harder to coach a cat a trick, relatively that is not. Like I pronounced, do a similar with them as you may with a canine.

I taught my cat to sit up by making it sit up for it's treats. He caught on really quick and now I don't even have to say "sit up", I can just put my fingers together like I have something and he'll do it. To me, this trick is really easy because if you have something a cat really wants, he'll do most anything to get it.

I had a cat that loved to fetch ! I think with cats it is easier to train them when they are babies. Starting when they are older doesn't work. A cat is WAY smart so have fun and remeber to have lots of patience !

You can use a clicker yeah and you can teach it to;
-Sit
-Beg (I think)
-Down
And you can teach more tricks but I forgot what =P. And you'll need treats too I think.

fetch, if it's not a lazy cat, if it is, then nevermind my suggestion. but if it isn't, just tart taking a ball, throw it for them, and when/if they bring it back, give them a treat they like.
