Poke it with a fork and cook it at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Poke it with a fork, and when it gives little resistance, it's done.
It's so much faster to poke them and put them in the microwave. Most microwaves have a "baked potato" setting. I don't like using the microwave most of the time, but baked potatoes come out the exact same.

Heat oven to 375 degrees F. Scrub potatoes, remove eyes. Prick all over. Oil skins. Place on cookie sheet and bake for one hour. A knife inserted will come out clean and give easily when the potato is done. Some may need one hour and 15 minutes. Tip: to keep potatoes hot and moist when the rest of the meal is cooking, wrap each in foil and keep in warm but not hot oven. Serve with butter, sour cream, chives, paprika, and salt and pepper. Wonderful!

I bake mine at 400 for 1 hour..that is for a medium size potatoe..I also oil the skin and sprinkle coarse salt on them and don't use foil..it gives the potatoes crunchy salty skins and tender insides and you can eat the whole thing or use the skins later for potatoe skins...

depends HOW you cook it... i usually microwave mine on high from 10 to 13 min, depending on size of potato and power of microwave, unless your already cooking something in the oven then wash the potato, rub it down with cooking oil or butter , wrap in tin foil TIGHTLY, and put in oven with other food being cooked, should be done in an hour or less, good luck,, but keep checking on it perodically,
