The American Heart Association has a Low Sodium Cook Book, that has wealth of info on nutrition as well. Take the salt shaker out of the house. Try using Mrs. Dash seasonings, lemon or lime juices, and flavored vinegars. There is another approach to help lower the blood pressure by, eating more fresh fruits and veggies, more whole grains, fish, poultry, low fat or non fat diary products and less meat called the D.A.S.H. diet, Dietary Approaches to Stopping High blood pressure. Stay away from canned or processed foods which are high in sodium/salt. I've been a lower sodium/salt diet for the past 10 yrs. I'm allowed 4% of sodium/salt in food. Some baked goods have hidden sodium. So READ your labels.

Just steering clear of carbs will help out tremendously. You'll have to treat your diet as if you WERE diabetic. A diabetic diet controls blood sugar, and this is what you're trying to do. Glucerna shakes are delicious, check out eBay to get the best price on these. Also, whole wheat pasta (takes a little getting used to), alfredo cheese sauce (practically 0 carbs), chicken breast, and a side of broccoli (also with cheese sauce) is one of my favorite summer meals. I drink soy milk instead of real milk, and lots of water. Tomatoe and their juice are one of the BEST foods to help control sugar. I eat fresh tomatoes on whole wheat bread with a little bacon ... yummy! You don't have to starve yourself. There are a zillion things you can eat. Try the website below, or google "diabetic diet plan" to get more cool sites.

Thank goodness that you detected it on time. You would be surprised some of the stuff that is dangerous to your bloodsugar.
For Instant, things that you should avoid are Potatoes,Carrots, Peas, to many servings of bread, these things all produce sugar. Also, avoid salty things, chips, peanuts etc. You should try to buy sugar and salt free butter. And check to contents of Juices, and soft drinks. Fruits are great to satisfy your sweet tooth they may also be additionally sweetened. (Splenda is definetly the best).
Diabetic Cookbook give you great ideas for meals and usually list the items that you should avoid.
Beware, if you are anything like I was you will crave sweets like crazy.LOL. I think it has to do with knowing you shouldn't be eating them, because I never thought much about them before.
Good Luck to Ya!!

You'd probably be on a high protien, low carb. Not because I know anything but when I was on Atkins I sure felt a lot better not eating all those extra carbs that are loaded with sugar.

I am nowhere near diabetic, however - I read a book called
"Sugarbusters"
It's an easy version of a low-carb diet.
I would recommend you read it, it was written by doctors.
