If you confronted her before, why confront her again? She'll do what she does. All you are doing is making her annoyed at you.
If she keeps the secret from everyone means she doesn't smoke as long she has "guests" so why tell everyone? If you do, it will gives her the ability smoke infront of people that knows.
It's her choice...
Unless you put her 6 feet under, but I think you really dont' want that.

She will not quit until she is ready. Rather than sneaking around and stealing her cigarettes, you should try to sit her down and have a serious talk with her. Explain to her why you want her to quit, and find some brochures and/or websites that she can visit if she wants more information. Tell her that you'll be there for her if and when she does try to quit, and that all you want is for her to be healthy and happy. Smoking is an addiction, and until she accepts and admits that she has a problem, as well as decides she wants to quit, there is really not much anybody can do for her.

This presents an interesting, novel problem: the situation is the reverse of the usual. I would say there are different answers for either mom-you or you-mom. Since your issue is You -> to Mom. Here is the answer. As long as your mother will not panic, don't "confront" her--talk to her. If you're nervous, bring a sibling or friend with you. Life's too short: be direct whenever possible.

Why get in her face about it? That just makes her problem worse. Write her a nice letter that tells her that you love her and that it is difficult for you to know that she smokes. Tell her that you will love her whether or not she smokes. Tell her that you would love to help her stop, but that you know this is something that she has to do for herself.
I'll bet she keeps the letter and that it might one day be instrumental in convincing her to quit.

I used to do the same thing, it was only because I did not want to hurt my parents and my children. It would hurt because the kids know what can happen from smoking and my grandfather died from smoking. It tears my mom up to know we smoke. Just be supportive, she can really use it right now. Trust me your mom knows what she is doing is bad for her, but it is not the easiest thing to quit. Support is the best step. Good Luck!

I'm going through the same thing with my mom and at some point you have to realize that she is a grown woman and is going to do what she wants to do. I am 24 and stopped trying to get her to stop. If she wants to ruin her health and die a horrible death, there is nothing you can do to stop her.

Believe me its very hard to quit and the more you keep pressuring her the more she'll smoke. Shes grown and she knows the risks she is taking. She will quit eventually.

You can't make someone stop smoking. they have to want to stop. However you can try to gross them out. Get pictures of diseased organs from smoking to put in her packs.

Be supportive, don't just get her to quit cold turkey. Buy some nicotine patches or gum and place them where she keeps her cigarettes.
