According to the bible, Satan is the author of confusion, the Great Deceiver, and was given dominion over the earth. So, how do people who worship know they aren't really worshiping Satan?
Do people suppose that Satan, being the liar and trickster he is reported to be, is running around calling himself Satan? That would fool a lot of people, wouldn't it?
Or, do they just suppose they are smarter than he?
Of course, that's only if one actually believes the bible to be factually accurate.

It kind of depends on what you define as Satanism. There's cults that the general public might look at as "spooky." That doesn't mean what they're worshiping is Satan.
Then there's the frat boy stuff. The ones who look for mischief, supposedly under the sign of the devil. There's no serious belief there. Basically, the Phi Beta Kappa didn't want them, so they become followers of the Dark Lord. It's more about seeking beer than seeking a path.
By the way, the Wiccan belief is NOT Satanism. They don't believe in the existence of a devil.

They worship Satan for the same reason people worship god. And just so you know, mainstream Satanists DO NOT worship Satan. They don't believe he exists, just like they don't believe god exists. Mainstream Satanism is an atheist religion.

it's thier choice. Don't you just love 'freedom of choice'? If we didn't have that people would be pissy about that too. Can't make everyone happy.
