They did in the only form left to them. At the time of Judas' betrayal, the disciples didn't have an understanding of the events. After the betrayal the entire nation was set against them, so they were in hiding. After Judas committed suicide, the only avenue left to them to judge and condemn Judas was through their words. They spoke of his betrayal and condemned his actions as such, they wrote of his actions and condemned them at that time. It wasn't until they saw the risen Christ that they had the boldness to stand up and speak the truth no matter the consequences.

Since the books of the Gospel were written many years after the event, we don't really know what happened.
The Gnostic gospels read more like the witness for the defense in this issue.
However, according to some Judas committed suicide. How do we know he wasn't killed?
Jesus preached "Love your neighbor." and "forgiveness".
Maybe the apostles forgave him.

Who - except the New Testament edited by Emperor Constantine - says that Judas really did betray Jesus?
There is meanwhile plenty of evidence that he did no such thing and that more than half of the story the churches tell us is simply a pack of lies and deception.

I don't think they really got what was going on until all the dust had settled.
It's apparent what was happening to us in light of the Old Testament and the New Testament, but they didn't have all that and there's lots to suggest that they were a fairly clueless lot.
Then pentecost happened....

He went out and killed himself shortly after he betrayed Jesus. I don't think the apostles had time to condemn him.

Judas had a dirty job to do, but someone had to do it. In a way he was very heroic.

They did, but he was already dead by the time they figured out what happened.
