What precisely does this role entail?

Besides, if the family is Christian, shouldn't GOD be the head of the Household?

Yes, God is the leader, as in we follow Him. But He charged the man to be the head of the household. This means that the man makes a lot of the important decisions, w/ the wife helping him. And he must do everything w/ love, the Bible stresses that love part...as in no abuse in any way shape or form. Just because he's the head doen't mean he's the dictator.

Biblical speaking yes.I believe the reason they say the man is the head of the household is because the man is responsible in part for the sins of the household.I do live in a Christian household and in all honesty my husband and I both make the decisions, but we also pray as a family over the decisions we've made.
God Bless.

God calls the husband to be the spiritual head of the household. Each home is supposed to be like a mini-church. The man is supposed to be the spiritual leader of the family. That's what that means. The man is supposed to take care of his "flock"/family and that is in every aspect as is humanly possible. God is the ultimate head of every household, but He's not going to bring home the bacon and He's not going to force us to read His book or pray to Him. That's the husband's job.

No, that's a very old style of thinking, just like not living together before marriage, or not drinking, or not working on Sunday. People in a household should work together to make a home, and there should be no 'head'. When we can finally shed these conservative and silly views, this world will be a better place.

That depends on the household. That is a decision each household should make for itself. Mine is a fifty fifty partnership. We both work, we both contribute equally with housework and no one makes major decisions without consulting the other.

Now for Census classification men are usually listed as heads of household but not always. On the 2000 Census my husband, who is a christian; I'm not, had me claim head of household since he was unemployed and I was working at the time.

God has designated men to be the heads of their households, while simultaneously submitting to God and his will. The Bible lays out what this means beautifully so I recommend you go there for the "precise" meaning. To summarize though, Men are to be the spiritual leaders in their homes and make sure that their wife and children follow suit. They are to get direction from God and follow it. They are to lead by example, being surefooted in their own relationship with God. They are to teach their children what it means to follow God, how to pray, study the Bible, etc. They are to work with their wives, who are their helpmates, to solve problems when they arise and are to be the final word when decisions are made. A wife submits to her husband by trusting him to be the final word on decisions that are made because she knows that he is following God's leading. It's a big responsibility and no man can do it without God. God is the most important part of the family structure.

I don't think anyone should be the head of the household. If all responsibilities are shared equally within that household, then the house should be run as a partnership and not as a dictatorship.

God should be the head of both the husband and wife. In reality marriage should be 50-50. That would cut down on divorce

God husband wife children. Husband obeys God, Wife obeys husband, Children obey wife. Husbands role is to make money and stablize the household finances, be treated like a king when he gets home. Wife should stay home take care of house and kids. Kids should help wife, obey the rules, and learn by going to school.

Yes. I obedience to God a man should be the head of the household. You can find out all the details in the Bible.

I think this sums it up pretty well. When you read this you'll see that it has nothing to do with being a male chauvonist. It's the way the Lord intended it to be. A man and woman are equal in God's sight. They just have different roles, one isn't more superior than the other.

Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church. For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones. "For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh." This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church. Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband. Ephesians 5:22-33
