If you have been denied credit within the last 30 days, you will get a letter in the mail from that company. You are legally entitled to a free credit report as a result of that - instructions on how to obtain it will be in the letter.
Otherwise, you can go to www.freecreditreport.com - you have to put in a credit card number to join their service, but you can cancel the membership before the "free trial" period ends and not be charged.

Go to AnnualCreditReport.com. I just went there the other day. You are allowed to go there once a year to get a copy of your credit report from 3 credit agencies for free. They'll also give you a password so you can back to it later to look at it again.
