if you are at school all day and your parents are working who is going to be looking after the dog?
Dogs need more than just being walked. They need someone to respect, they need companionship, they need to be properly trained, they need to be properly looked after.
You can't put a dog away like a toy and then just bring it out when you want some thing to do.
It is a living creature and it has needs.
If you get a puppy it will need to be house-trained and will need several meals a day. What is it suppoed to do - wait eight hours for someone to come home and let it relieve itself? Starve?
All dogs need exercise. Some Yahoo Answers have suggested that you get a small dog like a Yorkshire Terrier. Many small dogs have high energy levels and need plenty of exercise. Small does not mean that you can treat it like a stuffed toy.
Dogs, especially those left alone all day and under-exercised and under-stimulated, can be very destructive. They'll chew their way through the leather furniture if they are bored enough and have nothing better to do.
Cats, believe it or not, also need care and attention. House cats can develop behaviour problems, like spraying urine on the curtains and furniture, if they become bored, upset or stressed. And yes they can rip leather furniture as well.
Ask yourself why you want a pet. You might want a pet badly but I don't think you are ready. You haven't got the committment or a sense of responsibility.

I've just read your note. Are you serious? If you and both your parents are out all day, don't get a dog. Instead, do something constructive, become a regular volunteer at your local rescue centre. You'll learn a lot and do some good.
It is cruel to leave a dog all day, they are pack animals. It will get stressed and bored, and become destructive. It may bark and howl constantly out of loneliness.
Plus you won't be able to housetrain it. It is unreasonable to expect an adult dog to hold on for more than 4 hours. Puppies need to be taken to the toilet every hour.
You may want a dog, but you are not in a position to offer a suitable home. Please do the responsible thing, and wait until your home circumstances are suitable for a dog.
Why not get a cat instead? Get it a scratching post and cover the furniture if you're worried about damage.

It is not a question of how much walking the dog will get...lots of people will jump down your throat for that, those peeps are just high and mighty :) there are planty of toy breeds that are very happy without being trekked out for an hour at a time.
The REAL question is..Is it fair to get a dog that will be on its own for most of the day? Your need to have a dog must never come before the dogs needs. Some breeds of dog can handle time alone better than others if introduced to it carefully over a period of time.
However, this is not taken to mean any dog will be happy to be left for more than 4hours...it just isnt right for them to be in that situation.
Now, there are a couple of solutions here that could be used ONLY after a gentle and lenghty introduction to being left alone (remember this is a puppy, so puppy cant be left for as long as an adult). you could..
1. come home from school at lunchtime, you will need to toilet the dog and spend quality time with the dog while you are there so it may mean ruching your sandwiches :)
2. hire a dogsitter to come over for an hour (two hours would be ideal) to take the dog out and have fun. They dont all cost the earth but remember to check references etc.
The cost of a sitter far outweighs the cost of an ultimately lonely pooch and the behaviour problems that can (not always but often) result from being left. Think of it like getting a childminder for the kiddies. If they are good at what they do, doggy will benefit no end :)
Good Luck to you and whatever you do, please dont get one if you are going to leave it for over 3-4 hours at a time (as an adult).
oo just gonna add in reply to someone else here is that if your pup does go for a wee every hour there is probably something wrong with it ;) Make sure you get it at the start of the school holidays so you have plenty of time to housetrain, take em out after each meal and sleep and you should be fine...recommend getting a good book on training and buy a Kong to keep destruction and boredom to a minimum when its on its own:)

I have to say that if you're going to be too busy to walk the dog then you will probably be too busy to give the dog the attention it needs and deserves. A dog will need to be groomed daily, have regular vet check-ups, lots of love and attention on a daily basis, get play/exercise time; and at least the first year needs to be spent with a lot of training. A lot goes into owning a dog. Cats may be more independent than dogs in some ways but they still need the same attention and love. You can't just get a pet because they're cute and then neglect it and not spend enough time with it. It's a lot like having a kid; it's a huge responsibility and will take up a lot of your time and life. If you can't commit to the pet then you need to not get one till you are ready for the responsibility.
You might be better off with a fish; they require the least work in caring for them.

Get a very small dog like a pomeranian. They can run around the house and get exercise and not really get in the way. They are very sweet dogs too but they need lots of grooming. Cats are great as well. Very easy to take care of. Cats could rip leather furniture if they claw at it which is pretty common. Dogs usually wont unless they are big. You would have no problem with a small dog like a pomeranian.

If you have expensive furniture, getting a cat or dog may upset you. Any pet can dirty or claw the furniture. Even worse is that most people want a little puppy or kitten, and they're sure to soil rugs and pillows until they're litter/house trained.
If your family is out all day, that is a long time for a dog to be locked inside. How would you feel if you had to go to the bathroom for 9 hours and nobody let you? A cat might be a better choice.

All dogs have to be walked, but if you have got a decent size garden and are willing to clear up any "deposits" left by the dog you could try getting a small one maybe a dachsund or a yorkie, don't get a working dog like a collie as they need plenty of exercise. Make sure you take the dog out once in the mornign and once in the evening, even if it is just roud the block or down the road or something

You can kill 2 birds with one stone by rescuing a greyhound - they make ideal pets. They only need one or two half hour walks a day and are quite happy to sleep the rest of the day if necessary. They are very friendly and very good with children although some of them have a tendency to chase cats!
As for leather furniture - any animal that is unhappy, bored or unloved will damage your home. Generally leather has been treated so that it does not smell like the real thing to them!
For more information on Greyhounds (I do recommend that you research the subject) go to the greyhound rescue website.

If you're however struggling to boost you're vertical and you're looking to get both hands over the side, set Vert Shock to the check, a course that you will find it here https://tr.im/bIYUo and give it a decide to try, you'll be taken aback of how quickly you can become a beast hopper if you teach the right way.
The program will not cause you to jump a large number of instances since Vert Shock was developed and employed by genuine elite level basketball players.
In regards down seriously to it, if you really want to leap higher, you only found the most effective program in the world to complete so. Any way might only be described as a spend of time.

If you really, really want a dog I would recommend a smaller house dog, toy varieties are great but if you don't have time to walk it, would you honestly have time to take proper care of the animal aside from putting down a dish of water and food??? They're not toys, they're living creatures. Cats are less of a hassle and you can teach them to use a scratching post instead of the couch. If you're still in school you should reconsider getting a dog: you'll be thinking about getting a job, license to drive and other outside activities if you are not already involved in this. Unless you're really willing to put time into having a pet, I recommend a hamster because it seems that is about all the time you'd want/have to care for it.
